Minus 2 at Vale of Pickering last month and minus 4 at Sherwood Forest back in March. We were well wrapped up and had good sleeping bags, no problems at all. Well, just one, the bottle of coke I left outside the tent to keep 'cool' was frozen solid the next morning!!!

Well, then I need new lungs!

And I need new joints!

We're fine at night.  Got the multi-layers, and a great way with the duvet and blankets, thermals, woolly bedsocks, the works.  Night-time isn't a problem.  It's the daytime, when it's just plain miserable in the rain and cold wind.  Can't be walking for more than four hours at a time because of joint issues, so wine at the tent is the best option for the evening, and that's no fun if it's freezing.

Camped at folk festivals years ago with ice on the tent every morning, and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Wouldn't do it now!

I have asthma (steroids and ventolin) and never had a problem with the cold but i have a very good 5 season bag so cold isnt an issue to be honest.
Its only if you get cold that your air supply closes up,need better equipment.

Nothing like an excuse to buy something else is there ?

Its also the damp that gets to me.  And I dont have to be cold myself, i.e. can be wrapped up warm but if im breathing in cold damp air, it will trigger the asthma, as does when its very windy.  Everyone has different triggers so not quite as simple as just a warmer sleeping bag (which i have, a 3 season Outwell).  Also now that I have come home with a cold, that again will trigger it, so I have to be careful even when all snuggly warm at home.

I was perfectly warm once in sleeping bag and layers, but it kinda kills the evening off when the day is so cold what you end up having to get into sleeping bag before 6pm, and its not like you can get food etc. whilst there, nor can you even read as that means arms out (getting cold).  If the day was warm and it was just the nights that were cold, as you expect them to be, it would have been ok.   But no holiday is worth the risk to my health (and therefore pay, as i dont get paid days sick), and I will be keeping a careful eye on the weather in terms of my holiday next month in the Lakes.

I love camping but wont sacrifice all for it.

We are just back from the north west coast of scotland and the wind felt like it was cutting you in half. I refused to get up untill OH had put the heater on for at least 15 mins. I would say it was too cold to make it a pleasure.

I found last winter, when it was snowing, that i didn't mind the cold of snowy winters as much as the cold and damp of the spring.

Last week we were at Achenlarie camping park near Newton Stewart and beside our van were 2 first time ever campers in a small tent .Ok you might say big deal but the fact was he was 84 and she 76 and there only complaint was that they could not stand up in tent or sit properly.Even though it was quite chilly at night they enjoyed their wee break and were already looking for a larger tent for future holidays.

It wouldn't bother me too much if it was cold , it's the wind and rain that put us off a bit , if it's cold you just put extra layers on and still get out & about , although when the temperature does drop the EHU is a god send and that little heater soon has everyone feeling good again

i think we were saved by the fact that during the day it was lovely, even managed to get a suntan....

We were up at Saltersgate just a few miles north of Pickering for most of last week and over the weekend and it was a tad chilly, though we all still enjoyed ourselves. Wifey and the kids kept their clothes on at night but no complaints. Oh - are you sure it was a suntan - probably more likely to be windburn!!
