Hi- i'm after a bit of advice about a few bits and bobs for my cabanon aruba, which i bought 2nd hand in great condition at the end of last year and not had the pleasure in camping in yet.

Several of the rubber bands that you use to peg down the flysheet have perished, would anyone be able to recommend where i get replacements from?

I need to measure up and by a ground sheet for it, we mainly camp in the UK but this year are ventruing into France too, so would you recommend a breathable groundsheet? If so how would that fare in this country?? Again any recommended types or advice on how to go about attaching it?

Poles and springs- one reason i went fo this is that it looks pretty bomb proof, but i think it would be useful to have a couple of poles spare and also some of the connecting springs too- any advice on this?

Waterproofing- the tent is immaculate but i'm guessing it hasn't been used for at least 2 seasons, so would it be a good ide to pitch it, give it a good soaking considering that it is mainly canvas and dry it out before we set off this year??

Any advice is really appreciated.

thanks

David

I would give it a good soaking, pitching it also gives you the opportunity to see what needs replacing.

The poles will work just as well without the springs in if one gets damaged whilst you`re away. Several of mine are missing springs, I have the springs, but haven`t bothered replacing them....yet

I got my replacement rubbers from camping international, but you can pick them up from any good camping shop, the just need feeding through the D-loops where the originals are.

I ave a lovely breathable ground sheet, it feels lovely under foot and I cannot remember what make it is, it was quite expensive, but worth it IMHO.

Happy camping

Rubbers, springs and the spring tool etc etc here at Penrose Outdoors
http://www.penroseoutdoors.co.uk/acatalog/Tent_Spares.html

but you can get them all over the place.

We use a cheap tarp on the ground then put down the Cabanon groundsheet and then our carpet.

We put tarp under the bedroom pods too and then some Isabella groundsheet then the inners.

We dont attach it to anything - well the inners peg out through it. It's longer/wider so that it goes 'up the sides' with the mud flaps under it. The weight of all your 'stuff' will hold it down.

The breathable groundsheet is good but if you have wet ground then it will ouze (sp?) up through it.

If I was off to France I would only put a groundsheet down if the ground was wet - if they've had a nice spell and the ground is rock hard then I wouldn't bother with one at all but the eco stuff would work then.
