Hi,
I have recently bought a camping fridge as we're off camping in July for a week! Question: is it safe to run off gas for that period of time?
Any precautions I should take greatly welcomed as I've never used one before.
Many thanks
P.S. there is no electric hookup at the site we're visiting, so gas is my only option.
I regurlary run my camping fridge of gas for sometimes as long as 2 weeks !! It is perfectly safe. Some people are a little bit concerned about fumes but if you look at the flame at the back of the fridge it is so small I can't see it causing any problems. If you want to make sure, if your tent has a sewn in groundsheet, then just leave a little ventilation.
Yes safe to run for 2 weeks on gas, if your in a SIG tent beware of carbon monoxide, you cant see it or smell it. Can you stand it under a canopy of use a utility tent

Yes, it's safe. You need to stand it in a well ventilated area though, like the porch if you have SIG. (If you're on electric, it needs to be inside the tent in the driest area of course.) These 3-way fridges need to be level to work properly, remember, especially on gas, so it's worth taking a piece of board or similar for it to stand on, then you can wedge it up to level it with a few stones or whatever. And don't back it right up to the wall of the tent or porch. Leave a good gap, both for air flow and for safety.
OK thanks all.
We have a Vango Orchy 600 with SIG, not sure if it has any area without SIG, but even so, if I leave the zips open a smidge for ventilation then I guess it'd be OK?

I wouldn't, but I'm paranoid about gas in the tent, have to say. Also you don't wnt to be putting it on your groundsheet either. Where will you be cooking? Under a canopy? Utility tent? A utility tent would be the ideal place for a gas run fridge.
Fine if you just want to park the fridge in it, but you'd be better buying the bigger OR one and being able to put your cooker etc in there too and have room to move around. I've got a utility tent and they're fantastic for swallowing up all the cooking kit and leaving your living space clear. Safer for cooking in too, than having a cooker in the crowded tent.
Some campsites charge a small additional fee for auxiliary tents, some don't. some campsites don't allow them at all but these tend to be the more restrictive sites, like forest ones. Check the tarrif.
Look on ebay, you can get large sun canopys for the Orchy for about £30, great for cooking and putting a gas fridge in if the weather is bad ( and wellies and wet coats) not that its gong to rain on you.
Hi the amount of gas burnt in one hour is so little about 7 to 8 grams.
We ran ours for three weeks on max in France inside no problems or headaches
Taken from Combi-cool site. Butane/Propane Gas - 7.5 grams per hour on min Gas min. / max. 187/252 grams / 24 h 1 x 7 kg gas cylinder lasts up to 30 days
Reading that I think you would be opening the tent up before any build up of carbon monoxide would be a problem.
But as said you can't see or smell it, just use a bit of common sense.
