Our children are off next weekend and we'd planned to go on our first camping trip of the year. However...we've had snow flurries yesterday and today and I'm seriously worried that the weather won't pick up over the next 10 days. What would you do? The last thing I want is for us to go away and be cold and miserable!
Play it by ear, leave it flexible and the boot partly packed with some things so you can make a last minute decision and just go anyway.
Do you have EHU? If you don't, and for the sake of £30 at B&Q, you could get a small fan heater and go anyway. You can make a case for EHU if you consider that you can extend the camping season both now and into the autumn.
Thanks Victoria! We have an EHU and a small fan heater that we bought for camping last year. I just can't believe how cold it's been this week and when I saw the snow flurries !!!
We were thinking the same look what beautiful weather we have had in the day times. Tee shirts for me day time, but it is very cold right now. Like Frome says use your hookup and take a fan heater lots of blankets and enjoy

..and not much more than 10 days ago we were sitting outside in shorts and t-shirts!
There is no point worrying about this yet, you'll just get yourself worked up for the next ten days which is just daft! If you're going to spend ten days worrying you might as well just cancel now and save the stress...
Personally I'd forget about it for the next 5 days, at that point you'll see a forecast thatmay bear some similarity to what might actually happen and make a sensible decision then.
Yep , we are in the same boat (or tent if you like ) supposed to be going to Blair Atholl next weekend to try the tent out but it's bloody freezing up here just now so we'll play it by ear and just hope it gets a bit warmer ! as we all really want to go.
We had the same concerns weekend just gone as the weather forecast for North Wales was awful, even up until the Friday! Also made worse still by the fact I had arranged for a load of work mates and their families to camp too and got scavenger hunts, quizes, food, activities all sorted to make sure they all had a fun first camping session of 2010! But as soon as we got to the campsite te sun came out and it rained in night. Took a load of rugs and fleeces and hot water bottles and heater for our huge tent and had no complaints. As advised by otheres, just play it by ear- te British weeather is as unpredicatable as it's politics!!!LOL!
------------- It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.
We went at the weekend and it was perishingly cold however just by running the warm air blower to warm the tent up until we got in bed did the trick, very comfortable nights sleep. I've found it's unnecessary to run the heater all night.
We're camping this weekend too, and although we don't usually bother about EHU from May to September, have made an exception and booked electric for this weekend. Orignally booked without, but changed booking last week as it seems to be an exceptionally cold May. Or am I just getting soft in my old age?
Well Im not particularly brave since I cancelled our bank hol weekend due to weather but I would hang fire as apparently theres some high pressure heading our way towards the end of this weekend and temps are set to rise, so hopefully our Summer will finally begin!! Watch Countryfile (is that what its called) on Sunday early eve as I find they give a really good comprehensive 5 day forecast.
