We go to an adult only site which i love and there are no groups of loud youngsters you can hear people talking in the evening and taking their dogs for their last walk .

There are usually 4 of us and we like a drink in the evening but are normally in bed by 11 o'clock

We go there because there are no children but other times go to family sites and expect the noise that children make i generally take my earplugs then

I think that if you try to be a" tenting neighbour that you would like to have "is the best policy ,a bit of consideration among the fun of camping goes a long way

We are camping at sliver birches  http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4780 about 1 mile from the ranger path and are planning on climbing the big one! i think its 1 day climbing 8 days recovering!

Site looks ideal and we were in north wales in March at a fantastic holiday cottage miles from anywherehttp://www.glynyraur.com/ - 6 miles to main road 10 to nearest town  so cant wait to go back again.

Had to wait for the kids to grow up but now we can go where WE want horray!!

John

We're in the same position, John, though now our grown-up kids and their OHs come with us!

Your site sounds absolutely idyllic!  Have put it in my virtual brochure, so thanks for the link!

As for The Big Hill, I got up there, and I'm certainly no athlete!

There's a nice thread going on over at the 'Other Outdoor Activities' board about climbing Snowdon; here's a linkie...

As folks on there are saying, take your time, take a litre of water or fruit juice - or Lucozade, which I like better - take choccy, or if it's hot, Kendal mint cake.  Change of socks, good waterproof kagoule, sun hat and you're all set!

My walking poles were ace.  Couldn't have done it without them!

I didn't take quite eight days to recover, as I'd expected, but just don't plan to run a marathon the next day!

Good luck and have a great time.

(Sorry to have gone off-topic there a bit.  I'll be good now... )

Isn't the fun atmosphere on site part of the fun?

'Fun' is a pretty subjective term.  What constitutes fun?

Foo

if it all goes to plan were on a beach the following day but i have a lot of walking i want to do normally do 8-10 miles at a time just not uphill!!

Planning on going up the ranger path and coming down on the Rhyd Ddu path and walking back to the site it all depends on the weather

And to get back on topic i bet we will be quiet that evening!

As for choosing campsites applicable to our needs then surely this relies on those rules being upheld, which it seems far too often is not the case.

And frankly I find the implication that just because people have young children should refrain from camping just because they go to bed early a little out of order.

I ask if they enforce their curfew rules. I explain I like peace and quiet, and ask how they deal with those who don't observe the rules.

I have to say, the C&CC sites tend to be very good on this imo.

There are plenty of sites where you can party till late if you want, too, and I'm sure if people do their research, everyone can find a site to suit them.

I was considering an Adults only site, but on reflection think that a family site would be better.

I would rather listen to children playing, even crying in the night, to the sound of drunken young people.

As a woman camping alone, I often choose a pitch near to a family, as the safe option.

Am I wrong in my thinking that teenagers would be aloowed on an Adult only site?

I've no idea, snowbird, but I'm beginning to think I should be on a boring old farts site! Ikwym about feeling safer where there are families though. I quite often camp alone.

Teenagers should be allowed on an adults-only site, so long as they are actually adults, ie. over 18.  Some sites stipulate 'no groups of young people', 'only two motorcycles', 'no drinking after 11 pm' etc., but the more complicated the rules, the less easy they are to apply.

..........

Since then, I've always been wary of the concept of banning whole groups from anywhere or anything, as it punishes and disbars perfectly innocent people along with the few baddies.

I'm inclined to agree. I saw one site that wouldn't allow single-sex parties, therefore excluding me and two very respectable middle-aged professional lady ramblers (that's walking, not talking!) from camping there. But of course, they had in mind crowds of stags or hens or mobs out on the pull for the weekend.
