Has anyone suffered white smelly mould in a new tent before? We bought a new Vango Nevis 800 (Special Edition) last year & on the first outing developed foul smelling mould on the sewn in ground sheet. Vango did replace it but only had an ex display model to give us (a bit of a cheek when we paid for a new one). Took this replacement one on hols last week & blow me, the same thing has happened. We plan to contact Vango again tomorrow. Would be interesting to see if anyone else has had this happen.
I must point out, that on both occaisions the tent was stored inside & erected in the dry!
It looks like powder on speckled round growths about 1cm wide over a large area. This time the tent was only up for a week so there was less & no smell, but last August the tent was up for 3wks & it virtually covered the area under the bedrooms & the smell was PUTRID!
agree, vango have no need to sort this out as your contract is with the retailer you bought from so think you were lucky to get replacement in first place direct from vango.
When you store your tent away even from new you don't store it in a cold or damp place like a shed, garage etc. as this wont help
I'm quite used to pulling up a groundsheet and seeing white mycellium type (thready/speckly) mould growth on the underside. This comes from the soil and is perfectly normal. It smells like old stale growbag compost....yes, pretty nasty. But as I said, it comes from the soil and grows in the damp conditions under the groundsheet.
I've never had it on the inside of a groundsheet though, unless there was something sitting sweating on top of the groundsheet? Ummmm...you did lift and air under your airbeds or self inflating mats, yes? You can get a lot of moisture under them and over three weeks this could cause the mould to move inside.
