We had a great time away from Monday to Friday , aside from Tuesday morning when it rained, we were blessed with fantastic weather and spent days on Weymouth beach. My husband has caught so much sun , he is browner than when we were in Jamaica for 2 weeks last year.

Camping wise, this trip has changed everything. I was the over keen camper in the family with my husband enjoying it - when we had arrived and the tent was up but no excitement packing or getting bits ready to go.

Monday saw us putting up the tent, then the extension to which he said 'Is this really necessary?' Tuesday when we woke to lots of rain, he decided it was entirely necessary and I was applauded for being so clever .

We were in a field with lots of familys who had 'everything' and with us having what he thought of as my excesses of equipment, not excessive but quite sad in comparison. As a result HE now has a wish list of things for next time - including a big boy BBQ (or perhaps cob?). To facilitate this as well as the needed change in car for him, he wants a big trailer with a hard top so we can also take the bikes. He spent time on equipment porn more than me....

The kids had an absolute ball, they found friends (as they do) and didn't want to leave had it not been for my daughter having her 1st brownie sleepover Friday we would of nicked in a couple of more nights.

As promised before my 'review ' of  get-u-camping.co.uk

The quick version is faultless, the longer version follows.

We paid and have their 'dry & store service' primarily as I know my tent/extension can't fit in my car together with the rest of my stuff, drying out the tent is a pain.

We had the drop off & pick up booked a couple of weeks ago. Sunday I had a call from Heather to check we still wanted the tent delivered & what time. I arranged a time with her. Monday, on the journey down our sat nav informed us we were running late - I called and put back delvery by 1/2 hr. I was told no problem - to ring again 5 mins before arrival and they would meet me at reception. We arrived, I went into reception to get my pitch no. , came out and their car pulled up and I was met with smiles. They drove my tent to my pitch, we arranged a pick up time for Friday and off they went.

We had arranged between 10-11 for Friday. Soon after 10am I had a call, to tell me they were 15mins away. Happily the tent was down and ready to go. They came to the pitch, checked to see if the tent needed opening and drying out, informed me of the traffic problems locally , were so friendly and nice, reminded me to send details of my next trips booking and went.

I honestly cannot fault the service, friendliness and lack of stress involved. Would I recommend the service? Without a doubt, without hesitation. I am a very happy customer.

Apparently, people had been trying to work out how we got everything and us in our car witout a trailer. Some 'neighbours' we had been friendly with had taken 2 cars, for all their stuff. After seeing get u camping in action, they feel they will now also use the service.

Hope this helps someone.

Im very impressed. Seriously considering the yearly service as our Norfolk lake seriously takes up too much bootspace.

Hi Dozy,

I've just looked at the get-u-camping website, it seems very good value, in fact I was wondering how they do it for that price.  A question: if you're next camping trip was at a site in Scotland or the other end of the country, would they deliver it their?  It says in their 'bumf' that the cost is for 3 deliveries/collections nationally but if  the delivery is 100s of miles away it would cost more than they charge in fuel/courier fees.  I'm seriously thinking about using them and getting rid of our trailer.

If you weren't here recommending this, I'd say it had "too good to be true" written all over it - how on earth do they make enough money to be viable? I'm looking at the equipment store for £26 a year, including 3 deliveries/collections - they'll spend more than that on petrol to deliver probably on the first trip! This is a service I would pay for, because we struggle for storage both in the house and car, so it would make my life so much easier! But I would have a nagging fear that I would lose all my stuff when the Receivers were called in due to them not charging enough!

This site sounds very interesting. I've been thinking for a while now of doing a wee backpacking trip, just me and one of the dogs. What's put me off is the fact that I'd need to buy lots of expensive equipment in order to be able to do it and if I didn't like it or didn't do it that often I probably wouldn't get my money's worth. The thought of being able to hire some gear for a few nights is very appealing. If only to see if I was up for doing it more regularly. I'd only really need a tent, rucksack and sleeping mat but to buy all of those would probably cost a pretty penny if you were going for decent gear.

Thanks for posting about this site. Very interested, cheers....

Could they possibly have depots around the UK? this is the only way I could see it as a viable business. I am seriously thinking of using them. I only usually camp in England, so It wouldnt really be an issue for us apart from the initial pickup of our tent here in Scotland. Ooh just think of the extras I could pack in the car with no big massive outwell bags in it.

Just found this, what a brill idea

It would enable me to travel further and not worry about carrying my beloved Djakarta home when she's wet.

Going to ring them and investigate.

Has anybody else used them??

Hello,

Sorry, I'm not someone else but still the origional poster.

I used them again- the next booked trip withthe tent to the Chy Carne meet earlier this month.

My tent was at the site before I arrived , and Phil turned up as I was packing away the tent to take it - he even offered to help us get it in the bag.

So glad I found them.

That's good to know, thanks.

Looking at their website, it seems they will let you have 3 holidays, and drop off/pick up/dry and store your tent, all for about £50.

I am thinking of picking up a bargainous frame tent, then I could have 3 camping trips in canvas house luxury and all I would need to take is cooking and sleeping stuff

Obviously I would keep my precious tents at home for more manageable trips and weekenders.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, new opportunities....

Actually, that's a brilliant idea! We're talking about getting a caravan as a solution to longer stays and packing up in the rain, but this is a much cheaper and simpler solution - buy a big old frame tent and let someone else worry about the storage, drying and transporting - brilliant!

I moved from Dorset to Yorkshire and wouldn't want to drive down with my gear, but I could store it and then use public transport to get to the site.

A great idea for next year! If they don't go bankrupt first.... it seems very cheap

Seems very cheap, but they must be making money else they wouldn't be doing it.

Glad you had a great time, is hubby on a par with you now then with regards camping, I guess he is.

Yes, I guess he is. So far this year after that trip he has sold his Alfa Romeo ( he  that car ), and has exchanged it for a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso and has shelled out for the obligatory Cadac. They have been great additions comfy to get there and great food when you do. So I am a happy bunny.

He really misses the Alfa in comparison .

Hey Dozy,

did you know that get-u-camping have stopped doing the annual service?

"Due to lack of demand. At the current time we have stopped offering this service.

Existing customers will receive the service until their year contract is complete."

They have a tent dry and return service now at £100 a time but it has a note "We can not collect from your campsite due to timing issues for collection"

Hopefully now that your hubbys got a bigger car it wont be too much of a problem next season.
