Managed to pack everything away other than the footprint on Sunday before the rain came. It is stored in the house and we are going away a week on Friday , should i still air it or will it be ok until it comes out again ?

You can get mould on a damp footprint just as easily as on a damp tent...easier, in fact, because it picks up spores from the ground. Then it will transfer said mould to your tent. So yes, dry your footprint out!

The footprint will be ok because it is basically a plastic sheet. But it may start to smell musty so I would try and dry it off in the house.

If it is still wet next time you pitch that moisture will stay between the tent and footprint till you go home then when you put the tent away the underside of the SIG will be wet and you will have to dry the SIG as you pack it away.

we pitched in torrential rain the first time we used our footprint and camped for 2 weeks (with it upside down!!!)  and it now STINKS we have scrubbed it and used it numerous times since and it still STINKS!

Drying it out would prevent having a smelly footprint!   on that note..... does anyone know how to un-smell a footprint!

Anything damp should be aired to allow it to dry and prevent mould or mildew.

I would go for the drastic approach that's not really recommended at all and scrub it all over with a sweeping brush and a bucket of hot water with bleach added.

Do both sides, rinse with a hosepipe and let it dry on the line Hopefully the bleach and then drying in the sun would kill off the mould/bacteria thats making it stink.

I just couldnt have it in the house, or under the tent if it was smelling. If it affects the waterproofing , its only a footprint and can be replaced with another, or a cheap tarp.

I have cleaned tarps this way and had no adverse affects.

DON'T DO THIS TO YOUR SIG THOUGH.
