Hi,

I'm thinking about getting a Quechua Base Seconds 4.1 but have read in a review that there is no zip up door to separate the bedroom and living area. Can anyone with this tent let know if this is correct.
Thanks.

I had a look at their tent display last weekend, and I'm sorry I don't recall. I am interested in that tent though. I think it would be good as a solo tent as I'm looking for a tent for me and one springer spaniel.

I do recall looking at the 4.2 version, the vis a vis, and it definately had a door on the bed pods. I noticed that one was fully open and the other was partically open, and noted with interest that it had a fly mesh on it which could be either zipped up or partically opened, a bit like my Vango Icarus bed pod doors.

It would be strange if there was no door on the 4.1 but l didn't notice if the one I was looking at had it neatly folded away or there wasn't one in the first place!

The one thing I wasn't sure about on the 4.1 was the bathtub groundsheet. I spoke to the guy about it, saying I don't like how fiddly they are and as they are at ground level I find it awkward to get at the toggles. He told me that it was Decathlons modification for the UK market because of the wetter climate, which was the result of customer feedback. Fair enough.

This is the relevant passage you refer to

"The inner tent isn't sealed off from the living area. Also the ground sheet is held up with sections of Velcro. Both leave gaps for insects to enter the living area which is really annoying. Flies were crawling up over the sleeping area and entering into the living area."

I can't really decipher this passage. It would seem that there is no door, and yet every other tent in living tent history has had a door......

Hopefully the original reviewer will come along shortly to verify.

If you can wait two weeks I'll be back at the tent display and having a good look at this tent.

I'd say 99% sure there is a door - check out the 3 videos on this link

Video 1 shows (a very short) clip of the family in the bedroom pod and you can clearly see the door folded into the pocket with the zip toggle dangling down.

We have the 4.2 and it's exactly the same format.

RE the insects and the bath tub groundsheet - yes there can be gaps, but these are only small and tend to only show on uneven ground. The amount of insects that come in is totally dependent on where you are - some sites we didn't have any! When there were midges in abundance we just kept the bedroom pods zipped up - they have a flyscreen top bit so stay ventilated but also bug free.

I definitely recommend these tents.
Enjoy!

Same as above, have the 4.2 and both pods have doors.  Re the velcro groundsheet, I think it's a great idea, gives you the flexibility to use or not to use and I had no bother with beasties (though wouldn't mind too much if a stray crawled in!).

I went to Decathlon in Merry Hill today and can confirm that there is a zip up door on the sleeping compartment. Thanks for all the replies.
