This year we have become members of the Camping & Caravan Club, after being told of the benefits by people we have met on camp sites in Devon, Cornwall,Dorset etc.

So what are these "Benefits".........

I tryed the car Insurance from them..and with discount, they are still £124 more ?

Their camp sites are more expensive to start with, and with club discount they still are?

Thier sites offer no more facitiies  than many sites that are not members do?Some Certified sites a lot less

We booked a C&CC camp site, were not asked for membership No on booking, when we payed on site there was No discount  for members ?

We booked and stayed on a Members only site...only to find Non Members staying and payed the same as us ?

So Then what have I paid my membership fee for......

We live near the New Forest, which have lot's of "Forest Holiday" camp sites, which are C&CC run, and give you discounts, but after paying all the extras for bankholidays & ordinary weekends they are Still more expensive  than Non Members sites .

Hi,

You will see in the pricing that if you are not members then a per night pitch fee is payable on top of the site fees

Here's the fees for the Dartmouth site.

Adult     £10.00     £8.50     £7.50
Child     £2.80     £2.70     £2.60
Members' age concession rate          £5.90     £5.30
Members' family deal     £24.30     £21.00
Non-member fee per pitch per night     £7.00     £7.00     £7.00
Member back packer     £6.40     £6.10     £5.50
Non-member back packer     £8.30     £7.70     £7.00
Club Service Pitch (per pitch, per night)     £3.50     £3.50     £3.50

So as you can see if you aren't a member its £7 a night pitch fee on top of normal site fees per night.
This saves you £98 on a two week stay.

If you want to book online you will have to register your membership number and create a password etc. Then you will get the members rates whether you book online/direct with the site or via head office.

I'm a member and will always look for a club site first. It's not the nature of the facilities, but the guarantee that they will be of a certain standard. Obviously there are plenty of non-club sites that would have the same (or better) standard, but it's not always easy to find that out. The reviews on here are brilliant, but if you get a site with just one or two reviews then you're taking a bit of a gamble imo. You have to decide what's important to you, facilities of a good standard is one of those things that is on my 'required' list.

As the pp pointed out, there is a premium for non-members per night and it wouldn't take many nights for that to rack up to more than the membership.

After seeveral years membership we asked ourselves the same question and left. We found everything is available outsite of the club for less and just as good if not better.

You get a magazine - couldn't see much in that either.

i joined purely to use their temporary holiday site .

They have a meet for 3 weeks in the school summer hols at a gower site that I like. the site fees were almost £25 a night, with the ccc it was £9 a night .
so 10 nights at the site would have cost me £90 in the ccc field or £250 booking direct with the site.
only difference was , there was no hookup in the CCC field .

I think even the costs per night are expensive, could have cost us £71 for last WEEKEND in July at scalby for 3 Adults and two kids !

There's been loads of threads about this lately. I like it as it's much cheaper for me and my preschooler to camp and I'm not subsidising those with huge amounts of people or huge jumbo tents. I like that tents aren't crammed together, I like that the toilets are clean. I stay in other sites as well but usually find they are double the price (ie £20 instead of £10) which is quite a difference over a week, temporary holiday sites are fab too which I love having access to as they are usually quiet

I guess the clubs suit some people and not others

I first joined the club about 55 years ago and rejoined recently. I like being a member. The sites are up to a decent standard and there is space between the tents. The sites close the gate at night so there are no cars being driven around. As I'm now over 60 I get a good discount most of the year.

There are also members only District weekend meets which are great fun.

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

Thanks for all your replys....

This morning ( after reading your posts) I went to the C&CC web site logged on,went to book a campsite in Cornwell......I chose the week in mid july (not hi season) 2 adults 2 children up to 17yrs size of tent/car etc.etc. The Price was the Same for Non members as Members, the age concession did't seem to work on Family tickets  They don't work in Hi season too......  I did do this 4 times just to make sure I set it up right!!.....

I really wanted to see how much I would have saved, if I had booked our main holiday in August with C&CC....We are going for 2 weeks mid August nr Padstow.

I could not book in August on C&CC so I am not sure of the True price difference but the one I did try ( above mid season) was £10 per week MORE than the one I have booked in Hi season and NOT with C&CC !!??.

That says it all for me ......DD stopped !

PS  As for my partner..She has found sites £80 + cheaper in Hi season ..

Hi,

You will see in the pricing that if you are not members then a per night pitch fee is payable on top of the site fees

Here's the fees for the Dartmouth site.

Adult     £10.00     £8.50     £7.50

Members' age concession rate          £5.90     £5.30

So on this basis a member family with 2 children using electric will pay £27.80 per night - that is expensive for what you get. You may well "save" £98 over 2 weeks if you are members (deduct your membership fee from this) - you will save much more on commercial sites. We will pay £11.25 per night incl EHU during July & August.

We love C&CC, but we don't stay at their club sites, we use our membership for temporary holiday sites and the local district association meets every weekend. It has saved us a fortune, and means that we are able to camp almost every weekend, which is perfect for us. However, can see that it suits some and not others.

Hi all,

They are all valid points made. The bottom line is what you want from a campsite.

We personally only use club sites,we are over 55 and don't camp in high season.
We like the security of club sites, they are always spotless and well kept.
In 16 years of being members we have never come across rowdy, drunken behaviour.
If on the other hand we had young children and wanted to camp in high season I would look for alternatives as there is very little(except a small play area) to keep children occupied.

Like the original poster we recently joined so that we could stay at a club site. On arrival the site stated 'members only' on the gate but not once were we asked for our membership details, no mention of the C&CC was made at any point.

As far as I can see its only saving you reasonable amounts of money if you go camping loads of times a year and stay at the cheapest of the cheap sites - we have two children and so are limited not only to the dates we can travel but the number of times we can go, so as far as I can see we're not really any better off taking into account the membership. I doubt we'll join again next year.
