We've just gone through all our old air beds, and have found a few that are definitely leaking, but we cannot locate the leak to repair. With this in mind, does anyone have any suggestions for uses for old air beds? Keen to recycle rather than dispose of, and local tip is a fair drive from us, and don't want to add to landfill...

Any suggestions would be very welcome, thanks all

If its flock top one, cut off the top layer and use as a carpet for the porch of your tent.

The flock acts like a magnet , takes all the loose grass and mud off your shoes and keeps the inside of the tent much cleaner. I used one for 2 seasons in my porch without a groundsheet . I would hose it down and leave to dry when we got home if it was really muddy .

It was brilliant . People often asked me where I got the carpet from and were amazed when I told them what it was .

My old coleman double comfort was stapled to the rabit hutch to make it warmer.
The other i intend to cut up and use as weed matting for when i lay the path and yard slabs again.

They are PVC airbeds.

Floggit - who did you check the recycling out with? Your local council? I've checked our local council website, and the only plastics that they will recycle are bottles....

Debbie - Fab idea thanks!

Carole - More fab ideas thanks!

If you can't find a use for it, it will just go to landfill, this sort of pvc is not recycled. Landfill is of course recycling land so it can eventually be built on or put to recreational use. So nothing wrong with landfill.

The lower part of it, the unflocked, makes an excellent boot liner for those days when the car appears full of mud.

I remember reading a thread like this just after we'd dumped 2 campingaz airbeds. I'll certainly remember if it happens again.

What brilliant ideas! I have discovered two flock topped airbeds with leaks. I have finally managed to locate the leak in the single, but not the double. I like the idea of using it as a tent carpet and boot liner. Brilliant!
