I didn't camp when my kids were babies but now that they are a bit older there is still the chance of a nightmare, night-terror or middle of the night panicked loo trip, just as there is a risk of snoring or mad cries from adult campers!! Don't sweat it.

If it worrries you that much then ask at the site if you can have a pitch on the outside edge of the site. From a purely personal point of view I would much rather have a neighbour with a little kid than a group of youngsters that just want to drink, play their musuc loud and if there are both sexes camping then that just makes matters even worse.

I am sure that you have absolutely nothing to worry about, who knows you might even meet up with another Mum who will look after littleun and let you have a mid day kip if youve had a really bad night'

You should be fine.  Make sure they're warm enough and tired enough (they WILL go to bed a lot later than you're used to.  It's unavoidable - live with it!

The first time we went camping with our kids, the eldest was 2 and the youngest was around 13 months.  The little one screamed her head off in the middle of the night because she was too cold (it was April, there was frost) and it was just all a bit strange.

It's true that you can hear everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) through the fabric of a tent, but crying kids score very low on the annoying scale for most people.

Hope you have a great time!

Gosh, I think that's a normal consequence of sharing the earth with babies. Normal noises like that never bother me, in fact as mine are now teens and I have a lot of sympathy.

Go and enjoy your camp and take your little one to enjoy the great outdoors. It's a good thing.

Hi,

You may laugh at the hippy but, I have never used calpol or any other allopathic medicine with my little one.
There are some brilliant natural, plant based alternatives out there that are safe and have no side effects. I discovered chammomilla drops, which is basically soothing chammomile (like the tea) concentrated and in drop form so it's easy to hide in a drink or whatever. They are fab for helping a child through teething.
Most good health shops stock these things or failing that, look up 'Helios homeopathic pharmacy', they have qualified practitioners to talk to over the phone, and do next day delivery.
I gave my boy chammomile tea/fennel tea/sleepy/night time tea to drink and they helped loads.
I am sure your little one will be fine, he may sleep better next to you, as a mothers heartbeat is really soothing to a child of that age too.

I find it frightening that chemical drugs are used so routinely to 'help children to sleep'. Maybe a tot of whiskey would work just as well lol

Interesting comments about the Medised.

Last year we camped with (ex) friends who had two toddlers under four. Every day they gave the children Medised to make them sleep in the afternoon and then again in the evening. It was a terrible few days watching two beautiful little children being drugged twice a day and put to be bed whilst all the other children (including my own) were either playing in the park or spending time with us grown-ups. They even missed a day at the beach because it interfered with "nap" times.

It happens far to often unfortunately,  but if you accused the parents of drugging their children they would probably go mad. The ingredients of these drugs when used too often are habit forming and can damage internal organs. I went to buy a drug with these ingredients for a sinus problem in the USA recently and it is now a  controlled drug.   You can buy it over the counter still but you must register yourself to do so. It is also a banned or controlled substance in a lot of countries (western) and you will be arrested for possesion.

Just out of interest did it interfere with the childs "nap times" or theirs?

If I am at the point where I have got to sleep and they boy doesn't want to I just take him to bed with me and rock him to sleep.  Works a treat!!

hope you have a very enjoyable time and don't worry about little one crying, teething can't be helped, you sound like a good parent or you wouldn't be concerned about things.  If anybody dosen't like it then its tough most decent people will be sympathetic towards what you are going through.

I don't know if thry are still available but I used to use New Era infant teething tablets they are a natural herbal tablet that disolved in the mouth worked with my children.  If not stock up on the calpol for the pain relief.

Good Luck to you.
