It looks fab to me! We had the all singing all dancing modern tent with extension matching carpet, kids room etc etc but sold it all in favour of our auld Cabanon Athena. Don't worry about non SIG as groundsheet over mudflaps will prevent any draughts.
Its so nice to see that there are still good people in the world and with all t monry hardships these days just to give you a tent like that makes you feel good inside
Yes I have lovely friends! Funny thing is, although I've known them about 8 years, I never knew they went camping! I knew they went on holiday, but never twigged. Apparently one year they tried a caravan and her hubby has never looked back!
I need to do something nice for them now - not sure what yet. And yes it is lovely to know of people who are not just after money. They'd rather it be used by us than rot away in the garage or sell it to someone who may not look after it.
Still a bit excited! Can't wait to go round and put it up! x
If the tent hasn't been used for a few years, you will need to soak it with a hose & have someone inside the tent looking for any leaks or fine spray coming through the canvas. If anything does come through, just let the tent dry completely, then soak it again & allow it to dry fully before you pack it away. It will then be waterproof & will take anything the heavens throw at it for the next 15 years at least if you use it regularly.

Great tent and what luck you have.
All is not lost with the washing machine either. Remove the drum and you have an instant, super-efficient firepit!
Funny - that was the first thing I thought of when I heard about the drum of the washing machine too (sorry about all your clothes though).
Thats great advice from Jean as mine had been stored away for around 7 years and we got a fine mist coming through & condensation the first time we used it and nothing since - wish we'd weathered it first!
Millie, keep those friends close, they must think an awful lot of you and yours.
All this talk of frame tents, I can hardly wait to camp in the Athena for the first time. And I'm just about to buy son #1 a new washing machine, that will be his side of the bargain getting the drum out of the old one. OH uses a brazier to burn rubbish and the bottom of it just fell out.

Thanks for the advice re: soaking and resoaking. I'll ask tomorrow if we can do it then, as I am going to put it up at 4pm.
I'm now planning on glamping it up... I think i'll make some new windbreaks for it and possibly some bunting too! We'll be somewhere in Wales in two weeks time - if you see us, please come and say hello!
fantastic tent and fantastic friends , how about cooking them a really special meal or something like that ? take them out to dinner or just pamper them ?
