Goyt Valley Campsite, side of the Shady Oak Pub in Fernilee, on the Whaley bridge to Buxton road

!!! WARNING !!!! DANGEROUS!!!

DO NOT GO TO THIS CAMPSITE.

It all started when my Girlfriend and I had left it way too late to find a vacant Campsite in the Peaks on a Bank Holiday Weekend. So we trundled into Buxton and found our way into the Tourist Information Centre, "Sorry Sorry all booked" said the woman behind the desk, over and over again. "Oh hang on one minuet" she chirped, "There's one little Farm Campsite, its not in any books or brochures so it should be quiet and has Just opened, its run by a Husband and wife farmer, Goyt Valley Campsite its called, I'll ring ahead to tell them you are coming". So off we went Sat Nav programed and all. Arrived, nice looking place, chickens running around, £3 each a night!! cheap we thought, a pub right next door, bonus. So we got set up on a lovely spot. There were two lads next to us seemed nice enough, a Tent down the way with two young couples a bit rowdy but not too bad and a family of four opposite with very young children. So we had a drink, fed the cows over the wall, relaxed, listened to my DAB Radio, even got on the Radio which was fantastic, so all in all this was going great. "To the Pub for a Evening Meal" my Girlfriend suggested, "Great lets go". Brilliant Pub and excellent food. It must have been 23:00 by time we got back to the Site, as we were getting settling into our Tent a cortage of three cars pulled into the site (obviously not payed as lovely Farmer and his wife must go to bed at 21:00 hours) and set themselves up between our tent and the family of four with the baby's. This was the start of the nightmare. Very Very Loud Music, swearing, smashing things, honking all the car horns, holding the horns on for minutes at a time, ripping the branches down from the trees, walking round our tents, reference to drugs, shouting and screaming. This had gone on for an hour and a half so my girlfriend went to the farm house to see if anything could be done. She said she could here the baby's screaming in the family tent. So she had brayed on the Farmers door for 5 to 10 minutes at least but to no avail, looks like Mr and Mrs lovely Farmer just didn't give a dam. No one dare confronted the Gang because there were just too many of them. So we tried to get some sleep but it was not going to happen because of the din which was still going on until I think about 04.45 when my tired self actually fell asleep. Now this is the worst bit I woke up about 05:15 to somebody at the foot of my bed going through my things, I shouted Oi at him and by time I had properly reacted he had fled out like a shot, I felt sick...My shout got the guy opposite in the Family Tent out, he asked what had happened, I told him someone had been in my tent (it turns out they got my phone when I checked my things) there were still some of the gang in there cars and some sat on chairs but I could not accuse them cause I wasn't too sure which one it was. The Family guy said he had stopped one of them earlier trying to make a cup of tea with his equipment. So at about 05:30 I rung the police on my Girlfriends phone told them what had happened and we got the usual "we'll send someone ASAP by 09:30 we had had enough. The gang were leaving by this point so we got all the registrations of the cars to give them to the police. We just wanted to go home by this point. The place was a wreck they had burnt a whole tree down, burnt piles of clothes, chairs cool boxes and other camping gear it make you wonder if the stuff was stolen. Look who shows Mr lovely Farmer and do you know what he had to say Oh, yes that's it Oh...what a joke. The family guy stayed on to tell the police their statement when they finally arrived in the afternoon. This Campsite is just dam right unsafe no policing by the Farmer no care by the Farmers no security on the site as you can see anyone can come on when they please and choose. The only good thing was the PC that dealt with the case, you usually to get a crime number and thats your lot but all credit to him, he kept us up to date with his progress to where the vehicle's has be traced to and the people he had interviewed, but unfortunately no phone was ever recovered. I still have nightmares about this incident and its has ruined my Camping experience for the future as I now have to padlock the Tent at all times.

Thats one hell of an ordeal, It does make you wonder who breeds these people. scum of the earth.

Surely these idiots were commiting criminal acts and as such the police must have a duty of immediate response. This takes me back to a few months ago when there was a christening celebration in this small town and strong drink was taken at the house where the reception was being held...the expected happened when two families are involved...fisticuffs, to which the police responded with two officers one of whom got thumped. Within minutes at least 10 patrol cars passed my house. This overkill was because one of their own was in difficulties. Had it been you or I we would be given a crime number two days later. 999 calls are valueless these days.

In bygone days these campground thugs would have found themselves under lock and key at the local nick.
