Hi

We are buying a tent at the weekend and have set our heart on a Vango Icarus 500. Has anyone got one of these and are they really big when packed up ie, when its in the bag? We've only got a small car (bmw 1 series) and the boot is really small so wonder if it will if in with the rest of the kit. The reason I'm asking now is I'm about to book a campsite in france for a long weekend in August and when trying to book the ferry, they say its unavailable when I try and book with a roof box.

I'm probably mad to book a camping holiday before even owning a tent but we've camped before and enjoyed it so I know it will suit us.

Any advice would be appreciated x

Hiya

We have one of these tent, best tent weve ever had. It should fit but you wont have any room for any thing else. Read the reviews on the tent link on this web site. You wont be dissappointed.

Happy camping

Packed size for this tent is about 72cm x 24cm x24cm. A really suprisingly roomy tent I was impressed with it.

The spec says, pack size 67cm x 27cm x 27cm. You can  always repack, so it is longer and flater.

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

Hi,

Space is severly limited for us when we go camping/touring, we have packed the tent in a larger bag i.e. longer which then allows us to put it on the boot lid, easier in out case as the boot lid is flat and not so easy for you.

Regards

Bob

I would suggest that you get the Icarus 600 and am sure that you will find a use for the extra space.

We've just bought an Icarus 500. We've upgraded from a small two-man tent which has no standing space. The Icarus when packed away is not much larger than our old tent packed away, despite being more than twice the tent when erected.

I'm sure you'll fit it in somehow - if you're like us, you'll find that all the other stuff such as airbeds, sleeping bags, cooking eqipment and clothes etc take up much more room than the tent itself.

Last year we had to take ours plus everything else in a Micra! Go for it!

It's a fab tent.

Top tip - look how you unfold it! People are always coming on here and saying they can't get it back in the bag!

lol

Fab tent, really small pack size for the actual pitched size. I've never had a problem getting it back in the bag!!!

Thanks for the replies and advice.

I've booked the ferry and there weren't spaces left for a car with roof load so we'll just have to manage. We'll just have to put the seats down and squash it all in. We're off to the tent shop on saturday to buy the tent. Cant wait now!
