We are planning to travel from NI (via Stranraer) to camp at Castlerigg Farm from 24th July to 1st August.
We had originally planned to travel over on Saturday afternoon - arriving at Castlerigg Farm at about 5pm.
I am now worried that with the onset of the school holiday and arriving so late in the day, that we may not get a pitch (no bookings allowed).
I am tempted to change the time of the ferry to arrive in Stranraer at 4am and arrive between 7 and 8am. Do you think this is necessary, or am I just being over-cautious.
Also, going back to my original title, how busy will Keswick be at this time of year. We have been previously, during September, and it was very relaxing (and wet!).
hi daz. last year at about this time . i rang a few sites there. all were busy. and rigg was fully booked. but ring them up and find out. better than going and not getting in.

Yes, I did ring them.
They basically said, the earlier you arrive the better - which is why I am considering changing my schedule.
They also added that how busy they are depends a lot on the weather that weekend. So I'm hoping a day of rain and then sunshine for the rest of the week.
School breaks up here today (I'm about 30 odd miles from Keswick).
If I were asked I would say Keswick is always busy ....... but then any more than a dozen people walking about is busy to me . We avoid it unless absolutely necessay as it's always packed with tourists
Apart from Cumbria I think Wales are on school holiday from today and other places don't start theirs till next Thurs/Fri so that would help keep numbers down.
But Scotland are already on 2nd or 3rd week of school hols.
I went for the weekend at the beginning of July and it was very busy by 7pm on the Sat. You could see cars driving up and down to find a pitch and some ended up quite close together. I would say get there as early as you can. I don't know if you'll be able to book in before lunchtime but there's parking near the entrance and it has it's own cafe - you'll probably need a cuppa by the time you arrive!
Castlerigg Farm is in a fantastic location. I hope you enjoy it!
------------- August - Station Caravan Park & Cannich Caravan and Camping Park, Inverness-shire, Scotland
ive stopped on that site . its very clean . with a vsmall shop went with the caravan and camping club on a ralley . you can walk from the site to keswick town centre on a public footpath opp the site 40mins . it does get busy at the weekends. but the drive there iz no problem . the views are outstanding. ps its my favourite spot of the lakes. if you fancey a walk. go to Moot hall in kswick town centre, you cant miss it. they do guided walks, def get ther early . it ill b worth it
Keswick will be very busy indeed over the next three weeks with the annual Convention, (17 July to 7 August) and site spaces are definitely at a premium everywhere in the area. I'm at the Conention this coming week
