Hi all,

Having previosly posted on here about tent advice after buying a tent and deciding its not right for me I was advised by someone to write a list of what I would like the tent to have then try posting again for some more ideas, so iv been giving this alot of thought and since I now have 2 rubbish tents and a third on the way ( think I have a problem now lol) I now think I know what I would like my ideal tent to have so any tents that you can think of with these specifics would be good.

3 man

lightweight-upto about 7kg (we use public transport)

Sig (or at least bathtub)

Good head height in the main living area (doesnt have to be standing height but at least be able to sit on a chair)

fly net over the doors would be good.

at least 2000hh

and fairly easy to put up for myself and my teenage daughter.

I think that just about covers it, I know im asking alot but there are alot of you out there who could probably point me in the right direction.

Oh cost I forgot...my first 2 tents have been very cheap, argos 4 man  vis a vis, I liked the layout of this but it is 2 heavy and 2 weeks ago I bought the eurohike Calder (only because the Vango Milano I ordered was torn when it arrived an the shop didnt have another) i also liked the layout of this and it was easy to pitch, but no sig in the living area makes it very cold, I also hadnt realised the hh of this was only 1500hh.  Hahaha forgot to put a price in after all that...could probably go for about £200 at most, dont plan to get anything right now so think I could afford that.

Sorry for the very long post but im not buying another tent (well apart from the old frame one I just won on ebay for £6) until im sure iv got the one that suits us.

Thanks in advance

Vango Kairos 300.
Vango Green Wing 300 (8 kg)

Both less than £200 and have all the other prerequisites you mentioned.

I read your other thread and noticed you liked the Vango Icarus but thought it too heavy. Approaching the problem from a slightly different angle, have you thought about some kind of light weight wheels for the tent or lightening the load between you and your daughter by carrying tent and poles separately? I do appreciate that you are the more experienced here, having never used public transport myself to go camping, you will have an idea of what will work for you and what won't.

Hmmmm im sure I already posted a reply but its not here??

Anyway thank you for your replys, I have had a look at the tents suggested, I like the look of them both so will look into them more, the green wing ( i think it was this one) appears to be a bit like the Icarus.  The weight is still a bit of a problem though as things have changed a little since I first started looking, my teenage daughter has decided she wants her own tent if we cant get anther vis a vis style, this means I now have to find a really light tent for her also but now mines an the little ones has to be even lighter but still have room enough for us all to sit in if the weather is bad. Will have to stick with the very drafty Eurohike Calder for just a little longer I think.

Have also been looking into the trolley thing Moonmummy has as she did tell me about it before, I believe fishermen also use these so think I may have found something that will do the job.  For now we have been using a large holdall on wheels but with a tent airbeds and blankets in it does weigh a fair bit, we also have to take a large backpack and a smaller backpack along with the little one in her pushchair so its a fair amount of baggage to be loading onto a bus lol.

Thanks again for your replys will keep looking

Have you considered something like this? looks really tiny but the measurements are about 4.5m around and 2.7m high, for an inner you could use a 2 man pop up tent or just not bother. Perhaps set up a small tarp to go over the door? or the smaller version here at only 4.5kg, then you could get the tiny one for eldest daughter.

Be like a mini native american camp!!

We have this one for overnighters and it is brilliant! Seen it on the cliff tops at Atwick in a very strong wind and it never moved.

Can I ask why you don't want 1500mm HH?   Tents have been 1500mm for years with no problem and no leaks.

IMO it's become a bit of a marketing "thing" - people think that they are getting more for their money with say 400mm HH but in reality the lower figure operates perfectly well.

Personally if a tent fits your needs, I wouldn't reject it based on a HH of 1500mm

Hi,

I do like the idea of the teepee Mumshadenough but the teenager doesnt, plus I think if you have the bedroom space things look a bit tidier rather than it all being one big space, but thank you for your thoughts.

Thank you for the link also Magnolia, the tent you suggested is pretty much the same as the Eurohike calder I have already so I do like the layout of that, unfortunatly the weight is a bit more than I would like.

As someone new to camping I have  gone on what Iv read on here PiggletandTigger and the HH thing is pretty much something I knew nothing about until reading bout how people prefer over 2000hh, but I guess your right it is just a marketing thing, maybe I would have more luck finding a tent if this wasnt a problem?

Or maybe I should just stay of the computer looking at tents and be happy with what Iv got lol.......nope thats not ging to happen hehehe.
