We are setting off on a 10 day trip tomorrow and despite cutting back on as much as we can there is just so much that you need to take. I am rather concerned that the huge pile currently sitting in my kitchen will not go in the roof bag tomorrow morning.
Despite resisting this until now I have decided to look out for a second hand trailer before next season. Does anyone know if there is a good time of year to do this?

I've got a car without a lot of boot space. One solution is for husband and I to drive two cars... his boot is bigger, and I can carry the kids comfortably.
But, if I do it on my own, I don't know what I'll do! Can't put the kids in his car (car seats won't fit), but my boot's dinky.
Getting a roofbox is not affordable, neither is getting a trailer. (Nor do we have any place to store these things.)
For big, stable items, is it legal to tie/bungee things to the top of one's car?

Looks like a trailer is the only way to go then! Think I will need to get working on Dh first though. When I mentioned the idea his response was a very firm "NO WAY". Apprently you can't go in the fast lane on the motorway with one and this to Dh is very important lol!!!!!

. We just came back from a 2 day camp, got the car better packed coming home by putting the duvet and pillows under all the other gear instead of on top - I couldn't see out the back (Mondeo Estate) on the way there but had full vision on the way home x
I shall try this out for myself. We are going camping to seaside, and want to take our duvets, rather than sleeping bags, but were worried about fitting it all in. We have just aquired a rather nice Alfa Romeo 156, which we love, but this will be first time camping in it, and rather worried about getting it all in the boot.
Ah, we'll see.

We're only 2 and seem to have as much gear as those with 4!! I drive a Mercedes ML 320 [7 seats] and when dropped the vehicle becomes a van. However we still need a roofbox and I'm even considering [when travelling in the UK] using my trailer.

As we going seaside, I want to fit in a couple of extras, like Boogie Board, Bucket and Spade, Shrimping Nets, extra Beach Towels/mats.
I always think that you need to take the same kit for 2 nights as you do for 7 nights, just need more clothes on a longer stay.

We're about to change the car and are looking around at various options..The Renault Kangoo looks ideal in the fact it has an enormous carrying capacity. There's only the two of us so obviously don't need the space a family of four would take up. At the moment we have a tiny car(Perodua Kenari)plus trailer so will be putting the trailer on the well known internet auction site shortly.
We drive those at work, brand-new 10-reg ones. Loads of space, they go really well and the interior is nice as well.
