We're going to Blair Atholl this Saturday for 10 nights with some friends from Belgium who we met there last summer (some of you may remember me telling you about them). We have a few days out planned:

Highland Jeep Safari, then Kenmore on the same day
Landmark
Edinburgh Castle - they want to go, unsure if we'll go as well
Possibly a day in Perth as they want to go swimming

For the last 3 nights of the holiday, they're coming to stay at our house. We'll be going for lunch on the day we come home and probably won't do much else that afternoon. We'll still have 2 days before they go home. Possibilities are:

A day in Glasgow as they're having lots of Pipe bands in George Square in the run-up to the pipe band championships
M&D's
Cairney Farm

I need ideas of what to do with them. Anyone have any suggestions? The lunch we're going for when we come back home is at a fish & chip restaurant that does a buffet. Can you believe it? A chippie buffet ?? Shockingly bad for the diet but I'm going to be sticking to the plan as much as possible while we're away so that we can have lunch at the chippie.

The pipe bank competition is a really good day out (if you get the weather)

or you could take them up to the Trossochs and Loch Katrine, and go on a steam boat trip around the loch, you can also hire bikes so you could go out one way on the boat, and then cycle back.

The Falkirk Wheel, is a good day out, interesting as well.

Pitlochry with its Salmon ladder, and a visit for lunch or tea at Queens View?

A train ride upto Inverness through the lovely Scottish scenery, with time for shopping at the other end.

Southern trip down to Moffat, Caithness Glass to see them making their paperweights and vases, or a trip to the famous anvil at Greta green, with lunch in the pub there?

The Scotlands Hotel at Pitlochry does have a fitness centre with a decent swimming pool, which was open to non-members who wished to buy a day-pass, but its worth checking if they still do this if intrested, as its a couple of years since we were last up that way.

Don't know where you are based, but suggestions as well as the Drovers Inn -Titan crane in Clydebank, Auchentoshan Distillery also in Clydebank do tours. A day on the Waverley, the Tall Ship. If kids are involved, Xscape at Braehead. Kelvingrove Art Gallery. Lomond Shores at Balloch and you can rent canoes/pedalos

When in Blair Athol - Aviemore with a trip on the funicular. Have you been to the bakery at the Watermill in Blair Athol? Very quaint, and do great coffee and home baking, plus sandwiches, seems very popular when we were there in June

Pitlochry as suggested with a trip to Edradour distillery - Scotland's smallest and IMHO prettiest and I've been to a few distilleries to compare - not three in a day, but when in Islay you don't have much else to do!

http://www.explore-highland-perthshire.com/whats-on/pdfs/2010/whats_on_august_2010.pdf

Go on this website, there's loads happening around Blair Atholl and Pitlochry over the next few weeks.

I would also second Xscape at Braehead, or a day trip to Dundee, visit Discovery Point, the RRS Discovery and the Verdant Works Museum (they were voted 5* visitor attractions by the Scottish Tourist Board) or the newly renovated McManus Galleries museum or the Sensation Science Centre.

Glamis Castle is a great tour and follow up with visit to Dundee - Scott's ship Discovery and the nearby Sensations Science centre - a treat for all ages.

Oh I would LOVE to go to Islay: Bowmore, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain & Bruichladdich!!!

Our honeymoon was in Oban - can't for the life of me remember why I, er I mean we chose there!!
