Hmmm me thinks a trip to Asda tomorrow for camping quilts!!!!
Thanks everyone, I don't really like taking the house quilts as the kids are often trampling over their beds, or taking snacks in the tent etc so would be good to have separate quilts and not stress so much.
I think I will still take my sleeping bag and turn it inside out to lay on and put my quilt over me.
I take an old one from home - but I bought a new cover from Ikea for £3.99 which is cream and green and looks perfect! Really snug too. If you want a new one then you cn pick them up for a fiver in all the supermarkets, and it'll be packed tight for your journey too!
We just use a 10.5 polyester filled duvet at home, but I bought a 13.5 duck down duvet for camping, it rolls up to half the size of our other one.
We've never taken the duvet off our bed at home. As someone else has mentioned, it may come back damp & need airing. Also, we tend to extend our last day & arrive home late at night or early hours of the morning, so I wouldn't fancy having to struggle to unpack the duvet to put back on the bed before we can get some sleep.
The wife has an old single quilt and a variety of covers, as the kid's have new ones she inherits the old ones so in her collection she has got bob the builder and blues clues. The rest of us just don't bother or more importantly they have inherited my ablity to not feel the cold nearly as much!

As rookie campers in June this year we only used sleeping bags and were really cold overnight. The following morning we found the nearest Argos and bought the Argos Value £7.99 double duvets and used these as well as the sleeping bags (I am a wimp and get cold easy!). We were warm as toast. On our recent trip the duvets came but took up so much room. Next time, we will take the duvets but in vacuum bags! I was also given a tip by a seasoned camper who suggested putting a fleece on top of the airbed, then a fitted sheet. This stops the cold from the ground seeping up through the airbed and also makes it more comfortable to lie on.
I used to keep an old duvet just for camping and put it over our cheap sleeping bags, however I have now invested in a Coleman Hudson double sleeping bag and its much more cosy and toasty than the duvet and sleeping bags so now I dont even bother taking a quilt
I can get my double duck feather and down duvet into a 20L stuff sack.
