OH was driving up the A14 yesterday and saw a 3-4 pop up tents in a layby

He said they had boxed themselves in with a vehicle at each end

Cheap camping I suppose but a bit dangerous

Whatever next??!

I expect they were travelling home from Camp Bestival at Lulworth Castle. Like most of us who were there, they probably hadn't washed for a few days and I doubt anybody would want to go near them :)

It's funny, back in the mid-'70s we had a Bedford Dormobile and most of the time we used to stay down farm tracks just off the road. A favourite spot was Millington Pastures just near Pocklington.

Maybe we are just a bit more paranoid nowadays, but I wouldn't even consider staying 'rough' like that with kids.

Some lads coming back from a festival is a different issue I suppose. Surely there's somewhere better than a layby! What about through the hedge, in a field?

Something over 40 years ago, I and a couple of the lads camped in a layby.  It was separated from the road by a very wide expanse of grass.  We went into town, and came back to find Hells Angels camped all round us.

An interesting moment, but they were no trouble.

In my experience The Hells Angels are a great bunch of people to camp with,,,as long as you stay on their side that is   All those that I've ever come across have been friendly, approachable and a great laugh.  It's such a shame they have such a bad reputation left over from the old days.

Yeah, my cousin and some of his mates, on scooters, were in the chip shop when a bunch of them came in. They noted that the scooter lads had dirty fingernails from fixing their machines, and they all got on fine...

I wild camped recently on the East coast of Scotland for 3 nights; and without exception -usually small hours of the morning- we were disturbed by lads in cars screeching tires,  behaving erratically, and breathed a sigh of relief when they left. One lot got out of the car and looked around ( at 3 am )but mercifully didnt do anything. There were a few of us camping so maybe safety in numbers too.

Scared me. Ill stick to campsites in future. We were lucky no damage done but it does happen.
