Hi e1

Just wondering how many of you have pitched in the rain, as we have just got back from a long weekend away and like mad fools we pitched and set up while it was raining really heavy lol. Lots of other campers on site said they couldnt belive we did it.

We've pitched in the rain. Sometimes you just have to. The first time we took the Norfy away we arrived quite late at the camp site and as we were camping in September it wasn't far off getting dark. There's not much of an option really, you can pitch in the rain in the light or pitch in the dark, when it might still be raining.

It very good to get the tent up though and get a bit of shelter, even though our clothes didn't dry out for the rest of the holiday.

Just done it in Gairloch on Sat...was totally dripping and then when we had finally pitched the rain went off !!

We were just packing up in Gairloch on Saturday after a very wet week. Hope you had better weather than us? We did have a day and a half of no rain but even so we still had a fab time. Love the place

Oh... were you guys up on the hill ??? I made a mistake in my intial post we arrived Fri at 11 oclock and we well got soaked.
We were down by the toilet block. You are right it is a fab site... never seen it so busy... the last time we were there was the first week in May and the site was nearly empty.
We left on Monday and thankfuly the Monty and awning were dry and packed away ready to go to cornwall at the end of the month.

No, we were on the other side of the play area from the toilet block, down in the sheltered dip in our Nevada M with the extension. Shame I did not know it was you as I would have said hi. I think my nasty rash from midge repellant probably would have scared most people away lol.

Glad you had decent weather to pack up in. We were pretty wet, however on our journey to Falkirk we went via Torridon on the wiggly route to Ft William and had some gorgeous weather for driving and the views were stunning.

Doesn't the groundsheet get wet?  Will it seep through to the tent?  Do you have to then take the tent off the groundsheet and dry it, when the rain has cleared up?  (I'm afraid I'm new to camping and may have to pitch in rain very soon unfortunately!)

We would pitch in the rain; we only get 'fly first or all in one' tents, as it must be nasty putting up an inner first tent in the pouring rain. Only had to manage drizzle when pitching this year, but it only takes ten minutes or so to get the main poles of the tent upright and providing at least some shelter. Then I can mooch about inside with groundsheets and carpets while OH does the pegging...

Agree with other posters, it is taking it down in the rain that's the real downer.
