Hi, am going away tomorrow for the first time with my bell tent - I have not been able to put it up and hose it so am a bit worried about first time leaking!

How likely is it to leak the first time? If it is likely how much leaking is there going to be? Forecast is for rain!

Hi, i have just come back from a 5 day camp in my bell tent & it was the first time it had been in rain (& it did rain quite a bit) it was absolutely fine. There was a tiny puddle about an inch big near the back & the were a couple of drips coming somewhere near the top but nothing significant to worry about. A couple of days later it rained again & nothing leaked at all.  Good luck

Thank you - I feel a more hopeful about trip now! had visions of it raining and tent leaking like a sieve!

It actually would be good for it to rain and dry to get it waterproofed - all before we go to bed would be even better!

I never weathered mine before using it either.  It was fine when it did rain, didn't leak at all

Sounding better all the time! Really wished I had brought the malu awning as well considering the forecast not so good. They are out of stock now till sept but it says you can pre-order so might do that when we get back.

They are fab, always find it a bit of a pain to put up but it does give you somewhere dry to sit if its raining, fascinates me that the rain doesn't come through it lol!

Where did you try and order from, bell tent or obelink?

Obelink are much cheaper and will be with you in about 4-5 days (exactly the same awning)

Works out about £56 (including delivery) - is showing as in stock as well

I think with the conversion rate that paypal has given it works out just over £50, with the belltent.co.uk one costing £85 with delivery it is a bargain!

Bell tent are cheaper to buy than canvas and cast (soulpad are about the same price and v similar tent) but the canvas is slightly thinner (285g as opposed to 350g)

Bell tent also have the option of seperate groundsheet, SIG or thick ZIG (I would go with ZIG everytime), where canvas & cast have windows in the door (i dont think they do a sig or zig though)

Looking at about £349 for a 5m at bell and £515 for a 5m standard one from c&c

5m bell tent with the heavy ZIG is £449 form belltent.co.uk

You can shop around but you pretty much pay for what you get

Definitely highly recommend the ZIG version from Belltent - we're really pleased with ours. Handy being able to unzip from section of ZIG and fold it back to give somewhere for removal of shoes and wet gear if it's raining. Love it!

TattyGina - grab a couple of extra poles, too.  There are loads of ways to use the tarp (including standalone).  It'll give you more options.  Easier to keep it taught, as well.
