The weather report is rarely right. It impossible to predict weather patterns in exact fields, general area yes, but not in local spots. So a band of rain which dumps it everywhere else might just escape your one spot. Or it might peter out before it gets your length. Or you might be unlucky and get the whole lot, right on top of your tent.

The main thing is that if you're waiting for good weather in this country, you'll probably never go........ you just have roll with it.

Thanks everyone.  I think you have all convinced me just to go go go! Have two children, 12 and 9 and they are really wanting to go too.  Will be taking their bikes and there is a play area to go on and nice walks for the dog.  Will be taking the wine and bbq, so hopefully will get some dry weather, even if we do get some rain.  To be honest, the forecast for here this afternoon was really heavy rain, we have had sunshine all afternoon, so you're right, you really can't trust the forecast.

I would go.

At the beginning of July we had major storms . One campsite had 25 caravans hoisted into the water !!!

But we went anyway and were disappointed ... the promised thunderstorms didnt arrive :(

Love a thunderstorm under canvas !

Go.
The only thing that would really stop me would be gale force winds.
No fun in that.
Anyway, the weather forecasts are hardly ever correct.

What would you do at home if it was raining? Look out onto the garden, watch telly, pop out in the car?....We all think that beacuse we are on our hols the wet weather will make us feel cooped up and got nothing to do. Take the plunge and go for it. Yes it might be miserable weather but do as the brits do.... go out there anyway, its wet and makes you cold, but drying off and being out there gives you a buzz. Everyone is holidaying and making the most of what they have got. A sunny day does make britain look beautiful, and it makes you feel good. But getting away camping in any weather is an experience and your away from home. Do it, experience it then pack up and come home...

Sorry, didnt mean to scare you but it is true. It was like a mini tornado and sadly, one person was killed.

But the chances of being hurled in the air in a caravan are way less than being hit by a car when crossing the road so dont panic and happy camping :)

Supposed to have had heavy rain here over the past 2 days - not a drop has landed.

If you wait for a "no rain" forecast, you will never go camping!!
It's only water - get out there in your wellies and waterproofs and splash through the puddles!

I asked the same question here early in July. It was more hubby not wanting to pack up in rain, I said, why did we buy a tent like the Montana only to go in good weather, and that we'd have to pack up in rain sometime. Got the same advice here. Well we went and the weather was great all weekend, apart from the time we were packing up! It did rain, but we would have missed a good weekend if we had cancelled due to forecast. As has been said, you'd never get away if you waited for the weather.

It is now saying thunder storms for the Tuesday, rain Monday, thunder storms Tuesday and rain wednesday, and then Thur, Fri, Sat and Sun are sunny. I know what you are all saying, we could wait forever, but I prefer to be able to sit outside of the tent, rather than sitting in it all the time, do you sit out in the rain when it's raining? Still undecided I'm afraid.

If you sit in your tent all the time when it is raining, you will quickly go stark raving mad!!

If the forcast is bad, then you need to do a bit of research now, to find all sorts of different things to do and places to go in the surrounding area. Museums, national trust houses, leisure centre, bowling etc. Take the opportunity to go off and do things together that normally you wouldn't do. Find a couple of pubs or restaurants so you can go out for a meal in the evening - dress up a bit !

If you have a porch or open extension for the tent, it is still possible to sit under it and be sheltered from light rain. If it is blowing in horizontally, no. So, sit inside, have a cup of coffee and decide where you are going for the day.

No we can't go out to restaurants and places because we have a dog with us, can't leave him in the tent on his own.  We have a canopy and I'm not too bothered about sitting under it in the rain, going for walks in the rain, but it's just a bit depressing if it rains non stop, would be nice for some sun.

I think we are likely to still go away on Monday though, been away plenty of other times in the rain.  Will just have to take the brollies!!   Had myself all set for going on Monday, don't really want to wait until later in the week.
