Hi all, does cooking in a tent damage the material?
Ime worried that rising heat will cause tent material to stretch or discolour. We have just bought a new nevada and want to check before making the mistake. Any hints /tips welcome.
We've always (for 2 years) cooked in the porch bit of our Georgia and had no problems - there's an openable window right above where we have the cooker and we try to always have it open.
------------- April/May - Georgia destroyed in high winds sob
May - Loch Ken, 1st outing for the wolf lake
July - Waterside House, Lake District
July - Inside Park, Dorset
Personally I would never cook inside a tent - they can catch fire VERY quickly. I'd rather get wet when cooking than risk my life - too many scary videos of tent fires on YouTube.
I cook in my Nevada and haven't had any problems. I pull the kitchen stand further into the middle of the tent though and always have at least one of the doors fully opened.
p.s. good choice with the Nevada - fab tent!
------------- Mar - Milarrochy Bay - 9 days
Apr - Drayton Manor - 1 day
May - Saxdale - 4 days
May - Nantcol - 9 days
July - Weymouth - 1 day
July - Rozel Bay - 14 days
Aug - Corfe Castle - 2 days
Aug - Saxdale - 4 days
Sep - Stratford - 2 days
Oct - Stainforth - 2 days
Dec - Saxdale - 5 days
To be continued.....
I tend to agree with Helen above.
We use either a kitchen tent or sometimes cook under a canopy meaning we can step away quickly. If you've ever dropped anything hot in your kitchen at home then imagine that was your SIG. If you've ever cleaned grease from your cooker's splashback at home, then imagine that's your tent. mmmm
A dedicated area with no through traffic ( people, kids or pets ) is safest, in my humble opinion that is.

It's not really safe to cook in tents unless they are cottonm canvas, even then care should be taken at all times. I would rather buy a utility tent and cook well away from the tent or use a big umbrella!

We have also done the same, with no problems, some of us don't have a front extension and if its raining, well cooking inside is the only option.
------------- Had to give up the camping due to the rubbish Weather and Wind, so got myself a campervan!

.
Yes , one spark and the whole tent can burn down in seconds .
Cooking inside is not the only option. There are utility tents, tarps, large umbrellas, windbreaks with a roof etc for cooking under. Cost a few quid but alot less than a new tent and its contents and even more importantly, can save lives.
