Well, we have neither on our tent. I really would have liked a semi-enclosed porch or extension to sit under when the weather is damp, but there is not one made for my tent and as far as I can find out, I can not get one by another manufacturer to fit. So we simply do without. We have a large wind break that we put up around the large front opening, so it is sheltered but not rain proof. We cook under a clever windbreak/tarp arrangement that my husband rigs up if it rains.
We got caught out a couple of weeks ago, took BBQ food and it rained, unable to get BBQ going, now looking at some kind of tarp option, no canopy available for Hi Gear Majove 5.
I have one of the canopied wind breaks, the Gelert one. You can put it together so it forms a nice little box, ideal for sitting or cooking under. I got it before we got our porch and it was ideal, we still use it too for cooking under in the wet. As with anything have a good look around at the prices, i was surprised at the variation there was, especially on the internet.
i thought about the Sahara canopy but the staff at go outdoors said no it wouldnt do.
So possibly that but not attached to tent. you know sort of like a gazebo but it matches. as long as i can fit table unter it if it rains or cook under it if i need to.
Voyager 6 doesnt have anything also. Mojave 5 is alot like it (my bro has that one)
We have the Vango Adventure Tarp and use it on the front of all our tents - the small overnight tent right up to our 4.45m wide Vango Columbia 600. The elasticated side of the tarp is 2.9m if I remember correctly, and it extends out 2m at the centre. Combine with longer guyropes and the tent's porch poles and it will do many tents that have a front hoop for the elasticated side to sit behind. There is a picture of it in action on our Kampa Bude 4 in the tent review section. I have a photo on the camera of it being used with the Columbia but haven't downloaded it yet.
With a tarp you can offset it to provide more cover from the direction of the weather. With a small tent it will obviously comes down the sides more than a large tent, but we had a lovely BBQ in the rain last week using it and the big tent...
In the dim and distant past before add-on porches and canopies came out for synthetic tents...about four or five years ago, that is....we either used tarps or didn't use anything. We cooked outside or the really posh folk bought kitchen tents. But really, a tarp, two sets of king poles and some extra guylines, sliders and pegs will make you a really efficient shelter.
I found my tarp couldn't deal with the wind in Cornwall last week :( My kitchen only just managed it by me pegging it with deltas and surrounding it with a wind break!!
I find it very annoying that my lovely super tent has no sort of shelter, so you can't even open the door when it's raining as the rain comes in. I need to do something about that as it gets really stuffy in there if you're stuck inside on a raining day.
