The football season starts late August so thats it for us (everyone in the family except me plays the beautiful game!!!)
Usually we have quite a long camp in August, 10-14 days, and often the weather is pretty unpredictable. By this stage in the season we will have been camping 5 or 6 times and I am getting ready to clean everything up, sort it all out and pack it away for another season.
If we go away in October half term its a Youth Hostel - wouldnt rule out a camping pod though.
Oh and then I can start thinking about new camping stuff to buy for the next year ...
Sadly proper camping (not tin tent) is happening less & less for us & partly that's because of worsening weather. It's more the wet & wind though and tbh often we find that's less of a problem in October than it is in September, especially the period around the equionox. If it's not wet & windy (and other stuff doesn't stop us), we'd camp till October. Nowaday not normally go again till April - we like camping in Scotland & March is usually a month of gales / storm force winds, or deep snow !
I have a real desire to camp in the snow, and as I have a pyramid tent I've been amazed at the gales it has withstood - last year a tree behind us blew down in the night!! the tent barely flapped
The latest trip we've done was in October 2009, a few more layers were needed but we had an excellent time - so long as the wind and rain hold off the temperature really doesn't bother me too much - I'm still trying to psych myself up for the winter camp though!
