Well, its our first time camping as a family! I bought the Kalahari 10 last week with porch, carpet and footprint, and we're off tomorrow to try it out.

Only for one night, can't leave cat any longer as she needs daily medication. I was going to test out the tent by putting it up in in-laws garden, but they've gone away this week in the caravan and suggested we join them for a night. Its only 30 miles away, going to Bo Peep Caravan site near Banbury. Not packing any cooking stuff as they're doing it -  didn't see point in packing it all for one night!

Wish us luck!

Got a feeling you will want to stay longer.

you'll have a great time, the tent is very easy to put up and once it's up plenty of room inside and with the carpet it adds that bit of comfort when walking around. I've not got the porch so you will have to give me a review when you get back.

Well, had a fab time!! Tent took a while to put up, but given it was probably about 17 years plus since I've last put a tent up I don't think we did too bad. I'm glad my in-laws were there though, as I am a single parent and think I would struggle on my own.

Will ask the question here, but might start a new thread for it. Is it acceptable camping etiquette to ask for help in putting a tent up? When we go away on our own (me and kids) will definitely need another pair of adult hands to get the poles in and up. Is it cheeky to ask random strangers that you don't know to give you a hand?

As for the site, it was very peaceful, toilets were clean (although they play dodgy music in there day and night, think Barry Mannilow/Cliff Richard/David Essex!!). Definitely got the camping bug and can't wait to go again. Loved the tent, got it back in the bag fairly easily despite it looking like it didn't have a chance of going back in! I do need to invest in a double airbed for me though, single was just too small!

Its acceptable to ask for help its just that you may get the odd few who will decline this is not because they cant be bothered it can sometimes be they have funny Otherhalfs, but i cant see any harm in asking for a females assistance, if the female helps its more than likely the hubby will too, and 3 sets of hands are better than one

Thanks rooks and ritchie. Just have to hope there is some nice friendly people the next time we go then!

My kids said we'll just have to bring the in-laws each time so they can help put the tent up!! Was quite nice having them there, as they were in a caravan so in a different field from us. Could have had pitch next to them but it would have cost more as electric hook up even though we didn't need it. Also, they were miles from toilets and with my dodgy bladder I need to be really close!

Was not impressed at seeing a frog near the toilets this morning though, I am not quite phobic of them but severely dislike them, so had to do a little jog past it!
