Please can some one advise me what to do with mould on my Monty. We went away 3 weeks ago and the tent got very wet, we dried it out at home on the garden and packed it away but when we set it up this weekend I could smell mould right away. Now there is a few small patches on the storm porch door but there is quite a few patches on the inner bedroom tent. Its not really noticable by eye but I could smell it so had to have a close inspection and thats when I seen the patches. I wiped them down with wet wipes while the tent was up but what can I do now. I have asthma and Im sure I read somewhere about asthma and tent mould not mixing. We have only had the tent 4 month and really dont fancy parting with it so any advice on how to clean it and stop the mould spreading would be very much appreciated.

I've had the same problem mate , We went away after buying a new tent in May towards the end of the break we got hit by a downpour not a problem , I actually thought I dried my tent before I put it away , got it out last w/end for another trip , I've found out it's full of little horrible areas of mould all over it I've tried everything , but nothing will get rid of it , I've even contacted Vango and have asked for they're advice but as of yet I've heard nothing .

Although I've no personal experience of this, others on the forum have machine washed the inners, as this will not effect them, as they are not waterproof treated.

I got a small patch of mildew on mine, even though I was certain it was packed away dry (repitched in the garden for a few days to be certain!)

Anyway, lots of threads on here recommend Milton steralising liquid so I tried it and it worked perfectly.

We had a problem with our Monty too. Went away in May and while the tent wasnt packed away wet it did get covered in tree sap so we unpacked it when we got home and wiped it down. We thought it was dry whe it was packed away but obviously wasnt, and the next time we went away in it, in July, it had several spotty mould patches.

I searched on here and wherever I could find for info on what to do, and ended up going down the Milton route. A few people mentioned things like Astonish or Dettol Mould and Mildew Remover Sprays but when I had a look at them in the supermarket it did specifically say keep away from textiles so I decided not to risk it. I used Milton, 20mls in 200mls of water, and wiped it onto the patches - let it dry and then did it again a few hours later. All the info I had read about it said that it wouldnt get rid of the stains but would kill the mould spores and therefore stop it spreading or doing any more damage, but it did in fact lighten the marks too. Hopefully the fact that it had only had a few weeks to develop rather than a few months helped too. Anyway fingers crossed it wont have gotten any worse - we're away in it next week so we'll see. Oh and Im considering getting some Nikwax just in case the bits Ive treated with the Milton need re-proofing.

Thanks for the advice, think Im going to pitch it up in my in laws garden and take the inner tent out and wash it in a milton mix. My other half has just told me there was a small patch on the outter tent but didnt want to tell me at the time!!!! Am I right in thinking that cant be washed down with milton?

PigletandTigger we always pack it away with the inner attached thou think when it get's packed away for the winter I will take the inner out and pack it seperatly.

We went away for a weekend in July and the tent got wet, we dried it out when we got home but when we went to Norfolk the other week on our hols I was gutted to see little areas of mildew/mould on the tent.  We only bought our tent this year too.  I knew I had read somewhere on here about what to do with it but couldn't remember anyway phoned my Mum at home and asked her to contact Yeomans (who we had bought the tent from) and they recommended Milton fluid. 

I treated the tent whilst we were there and hopefully it's worked.  We are going away next week for a few days so I will know more then!
