Hiya everyone, im new to this forum but am hoping you can help me. I have a lichfield yana tent for me my 2 year old daughter and my jack russel, but when we went last week and it rained all day the one day it was a bit small for us all and all the stuff. Plus I had to cook the food in the rain as not to cook inside the tent. So I want to get a kitchen tent to cook in and store cooler box and cooker in. SO was hoping someone might have a suggestion as to where to start looking to get one? also it needs to be one I can put up alone without too much fuss and preferably not cost too much. Thanks in advance for any replies
Hi there, we used to have a gazebo to cook under, the type with the removable sides on, you can get the pop up type quite cheaply (around £50 - £60), and they are really easy to put up. The advantage is that when the weather is nice you can remove the sides and let air in, great when cooking, and also chairs/ table can be left under there, leaving you with more free space in your tent. Hope this helps, Jane.
I dont think I can get a canopy for my tent as its a pop up tent, but correct me if im wrong? was thinking a gazebo might be too big for just me and a 2year old what do you think? and are gazebos strong enough in wind and rain? sorry for all the questions lol
i think the feeling is that a gazebo is to flimsy and cant be guyed down properly and some campsites are now charging extra
if you look at the quechua tarp and im not saying its the bees knees i dont have one just trying to give you a few ideas
it looks like it has so many ways of putting it up
The Outdoor Revolution Outhouse is really quick to put up for one person. takes me 5 mins out of the bag. We've had it 3 or 4 years now and can recommend it. Our's is the double but there is also an XL version which I think is 2m x 2m whereas ours is 2m x 1.5m. We find it plenty big enough. With a small person and a Jack Russell around imo much safer. You can zip everything away nice and neat and no through traffic.
thanks I have never seen them tarps before and they look good. do things still get wet left under them though as they have no sides? Because I plan on leaving the cooker stand and cooker and the cooler box out there if I can to give me more room in the tent for a energetic 2 year old lol. I was looking at one in the old argos book and they have a handy tent that I thaught looked good, anyone used this before and have any opinions on them?
It might be worth remembering that in windy weather you would need to take down a tarp, a canopy or indeed an open porch and you would still have through traffic which is how a lot of accidents occur.
edit - oh and forgot to add, welcome to the forum!

We used a kitchen or handy tent for a number of years and it worked really well. I think it's a good solution for those with littlies as you can keep the hot, sharp and dangerous stuff out of the way and they don't get under your feet whilst cooking.
We had a Sunncamp handy tent, it suffered a bit from having a flat roof so the water pooled a bit. The outdoor revolution one always gets good reviews.
One other thing just occurred to me, I find it easier to put up the OR kitchen tent than a tarp on my own which always needs another person to hold one pole whilst you do the other.
How old is your JR ? Ours is 17 ish, we're not quite sure as he was my inheritance from my parents. He loves camping and tries to jump into the car as soon as he sees us packing camping gear.

It's a pop up and because it's end of collection, it has been reduced to £50. It doesn't have a ground sheet though but you can get that separately if you need it.

What about this?

These are great, very spacious or they also do a Quechua tarp for £19.99 which makes a useful shelter for cooing under.
We have the handy tent for all our cooking and doubles up for an extra room to colour in or store stuff in. We got ours from argos for abou 5o quid.....best buy tbh!
------------- It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.
