Ok, so the dog we accidentally got may be coming into season.

Problem is the male we have hasnt been done. We dont want the patter of tiny paws.

Is there a problem taking a dog thats in season? Will she drive other dogs crazy? Will she drive us crazy? Or shall we kennel her?

Are dogs in season more likely to be un settled in a different envronment like a tent?

We can try to keep them away from each other on seperate dog pegs (got a couple of them fancy ones off of deltagroundanchors, so will be a good test of them)

Shes never been camoing before as far as we know.

i think you might have a queue outside your tent in the morning ! with all the other male dogs on site
of course they should be tethered but it will still drive them nuts pardon the pun
i dont think she will be to bothered about being in the tent as long as she is with you

Could cause a few problems but nothing you wont be able to handle

Depends on the bitch really. Some will try and escape to find a male to serve them. This normally happens in the second part of the season but not always.

You can be sure it will drive your dog mad. Some will howl and cry and like Paul said you may have a queue outside your tent.

You would need to  tell the Kennel if you boarded her for the same reasons

Good Luck.....Simon [owner of three dogs ]

Your male dog will be very frustrated, will be trying to get at her all the time. She could become aggressive towards him and other dogs.
The bitch will also bleed , making a mess of her bedding and your tent .
I wouldn't take her personally , you won't be able to take her for walks without all the other dogs around following you .
also the scent will be on you and your family, so even if she is in the tent, you will be smelling very attractive to other male dogs.
If you have children they could be set upon by randy male dogs too.
my sister has a cavalier bitch, and male german shepherd who has been done. But he still tries to mount the cavalier when she is in season.

Not sure other campers would be too happy with you if your bitch was driving their male dog crazy - as beefysmum says even dogs that have been done will still get randy.

I would definately not take an 'in season' bitch away.  You will have to whole neighborhood camped  outside your tent. and tethering will only make her a captive conquest. If you were to use a dog crate, she would be safer. But you would still be bothered on every walk or outing. As for the Antimate spray ?  Most dog showing people would say it's the doggie version of chanel no.5 !!  You would have to find a kennels who could cope with this bitch, which will not be easy either.  Good Luck

I think you'll find that your holiday will be compromised by taking an in season bitch.  Your other dog will be totally frustrated and keeping them apart will be a challenge ( unless you are very, very lucky ).  They will break through anything to get to an in-season bitch.  Also, a dog with a mission to get ot a bitch - even if it's the most obedient dog in the world, will become a difficult handful.

As well as this, it would be very unfair to other campers with entire dogs.

Definately, I would make other arrangements for the in-season dog.

I've got two entire dogs and it's enough of a challenge keeping them apart in a house, let alone where there are only zips and fabric between them. You risk one or other of them damaging the tent trying to get at the other one.

It's also likely to cause problems for owners of other entire males on site. There dogs are likely to cry or become very unsettled if they get a whiff of her, any loose dogs such as farm dogs will be round your tent and you won't be able to exercise her save very early in the morning or late at night when there are no other dogs around.

I'd kennel her or get a dogsitter.

Doesn't work at all imo!

At least, it didn't for my girl.

I think it'd be very risky taking an in-season bitch to any public place tbh. A dog could get to her far quicker than you could get him off.

Personally I would say that it would be irresponsible to take a bitch in season camping not fair on the dog or other dogs on the campsite or dog owners and to be honest I think if the site owner knew they wouldnt allow her on the site.

I would recommend either getting someone to look after her or postponing your trip and getting her spayed and your dog castrated to avoid any unwanted pregnancies.

Have to say I'd echo ( again ) above comments. I've had dogs all my life ( dog trainer ) and while I've haqd one dog in 25 years that wasn't interested in in season bitches...the majority rule is that dogs WILL do their utmost to get to bitches....and it's a challenge in a house ( with other members of the fanily who don't undersatnd the concept of closing doors ! ).  I had a daxie dog onece who broke through a cat flat...and in fact WORE the cat flap in order to get to an in season bitch.

If you decide to take her, all I can say is good luck - both with the dogs and the owners of other dogs who wont take too kindly to an in season bitch on the campsite. ( I won't even walk in season bitches as I feel this unfair to other dog walkers ).

I would recommend spaying unless there is a very good reason for breeding with her and she's had all the health checks.  And even if this is the case, I woudnt recommend risking a pregnacy with any 'tom, dick or harry'.

I believe there is a hormone injection to delay your dogs season its used by people who want to breed from a bitch at a later date you could try asking at the vet if you really want to go away

Well it doesnt look like she is coming into season after all, she is showing no other symptoms and Jake doesnt seem that bothered with her anymore. That was what made us think she was starting, but maybe he didnt realise she was a girl at first.

Perhaps I should have said in the first post that she is only 8 months old and it is her first season, she will be nuetered as soon as she has had it.

The male is booked in to be castrated as soon as we get back from camping, as he is only a year old he hasnt been done yet.

tbh I had forgotten that we didnt take our last dog for a walk even when she was in season (again only once then she was spayed) for the reasons mentioned above.

I should say that we are going to a very small campsite with a bunch of other families so there wont be many other people there. We might fill the whole site .  If it was just us then we would have canceled the holiday if she was in season. We did think about not going at all because we have had her such a short time, but she has settled in with us really well.

if i was on your site jamen, then i would be a little miffed at haveing a bitch in season near me, its happened before and my male dog changed for them few days and he was a right bugger! he was allways alert and trying to get away and would bark at every dog walking past. it drives male dogs mad as they want to get there fix ie your girl!! when my whippet came to us she came into season not long after (got her done pritty quick tho) and bob would try and hump her (bless him - no bits tho) and she would happily pop her tail to the side, imagine a huge lurcher and a teeny tiny whippet, was a nightmare them first few weeks!!
