Maybe his wife doesn't snore, but hasn't the heart to tell him?
When I had my DD the woman in the bed next to me was a really loud snorer... of course in a maternity ward you are up half the night anyway with babies crying but it really is a gross sound to listen to when you are awake and very close and trying to breastfeed.
Earplugs are definitely the way to go - wish I'd tried them years ago. A mate of mine gets industrial ones from his work - they are much better than any shop bought ones that I've tried.
