Unfortunately Bob at Wryeside fisheries has had to put up this notice as someone left a gas heater on overnight to keep the kids warm, the wind blew the flame out and the children ended up in hospital. I didn't ever think anyone would leave one of these heaters unatended but it just goes to show that some people don't know how dangerous these things can be.

Fancy spending all that money on having a sign specially made up though.....and spelling "chimneys" instead of "chimineas"!

Last year we used a gas heater inside the non SIG area to take the chill off before bed. It was always supervised, in the non SIG area with all the ventilation we could give it. It was never on for long and we had a carbon monoxide detector with us just in case (not that there was any real risk due to the way we used it) Common sense dictates you don;t leave one on all the time.
This year we had a fan heater with a knock over cut off, much better (we need a bit of heat at night due to my wifes illness) and a lot lot safer.
I have a little gas heater for when we go non EHU. I would never dream of leaving it on for more than 20 minutes or so. It's the for taking the chill from the tent when the girlfriend and kids want to get changed inside the tent.
To even think about leaving it on all night defies belief.
I totally agree with Gareth29 comment. What were these folk thinking of?? At least the childen did not come to any real harm, although im sure it will take them a while to forget what happened.

How stupid can some people be? God forbid if something worse had happened to the children - you can bet the parents would then have blamed faulty equipment and be sueing the manufacturers!
