waaaaaaaaah !

I seriously need some opinions from you guys........

we went away this weekend in our (outwell)carolina 3 that we bought in january. we have been away in it numerous times for long weekends and have been really happy with it......but this weekend we got wet. INSIDE !

got to site sat afternoon and it started raining when we had just put up the tent. firstly, it seemed to be just heavy showers but it soon turned into prolonged rain that lasted until the next morning.

when we were sitting in it sunday morning, we were getting dripped on sporadically from the 2 roof seams.

now, i know all about getting condensation etc, but my other half seems to think it was leaking ? the table tops etc were wet, as well as the carpet. i explained about condensation, but when the rain stopped and it all dried up we didnt get it the next morning whatsoever.

In your honest, humble opinions - what do you think ? and, what would you do about it ?

the only good thing to come out of it is that he wants to upgrade to  monty 6 !! and that would mean 3 outwells and a borderline obsession...

thanks all.

I believe the procedure with outwell is you leave the tent with your retailer and the outwell guy comes in and inspects it before giving a decision. if your not using it for a few weeks i cant see that you have anything to lose.

The worst they can say is its ok and you can then set to work with some seam sealer

The other thing is that condesation could actually be the cause, as condesation rolls down the innerside of the tent then comes to a stop at the seam, as the build up of more condensation arrives at the seam this ends in a drip. i'm not sure what the ventilation is like in the carolina so i can't help much more. hth

Can you pitch the tent in your garden then try puting a garden hose on if for a while to see if the "leak" occurs again?  I know you do tend to get alot more condensation in a tent when its raining and the ventilation is poor.

thanks for the replies. i cant find the receipt in ANY blumming drawer - but i might try and put it up in the garden and see if i can find a leak.

the thing is, i would never ever sell a tent on if i thought it would leak for the next owner, but if i could find one and seal it wouldnt be so bad. i think my oh is wanting the space that the monty would bring, i love the carloina but with us two, a teenager and 2 dogs it can be a bit tight !

i love being in my tent, even if it does rain.

I dont think there would be any harm in running some seam sealer down all the seams why you have it up. its only a few quid and might cure the problem if indeed there is one

If it was raining you would get far more condensation than in the dry. The colder the surface your warm breath hits the more condensation. The way forward here is to erect tent in garden & stand inside while a hose is played directly onto the place where you believe the leak to be. If there is no leak after couple of mins, it was condensation.

Sounds like condensation to me.

To test it, you could pitch the tent sometime this week at home if you can. The weather should be better during the day ie ttle or no chance of condensation.

Give the tent a good soaking with a hose and see if it leaks.

EDIT: Sorry TENTZ I see you beat me to it.

We had hellish condensation in our Nevada M which I think is a similar tent? Never had anything like it in any other tent...

We had it badly after a wet night near Venice, so much so that when we re-erected the tent the inners were wet and there were pools in the sig and again after really hot days and then a cold wet night in France - even though it was warm the morning we packed up we couldn't dry the tent enough either inside or out before packing it away - there was so much condensation that when we unpacked it to dry it out at home I reckon there was 2 pints of water inside the tent, we had to 'bail' it out of the sig!

You don't have to have a reciept in order to return something, you need 'proof of purchase'

How did you pay? If you paid by credit card or debit card you will have a bill or statement with the amount on. The store will be able to match the amount paid with the cost of the item. Under consumer law this will suffice.

Good Luck and let us know how you get on if you do ask for a replacement.
