My guess would be they cost more than 99 pence but less than £1.01.
Headtorches are so useful when camping - I'd recommend every camper should have at least one in their kit.
My original headtorch cost over three quid but my current one came from a pound shop (can't remember which particular one) and it's still going strong. I use it most evenings when I take the dog for its late walk.
We have pound shop headlamps and I wouldn't be without them in our small dome tent. As soon as the daylight starts to fade I strap my headlamp on so I can see around the poky tent, a lantern just creates shadows but my headlamp lights everything up!
Some pound shops have those little round LED lights, about 3" diameter with magnet and fold out hook on back. Not so good for lighting the tent IMO but great as torches and much easier to slip into a pocket than a torch with a handle.

The pen is mightier than the sword - but only if the sword is very small and the pen is very sharp...
The headtorches are LED too - means the batteriers last for ages compared to old-fashioned bulbs.
I've also got a wind-up torch which uses LEDs and gives good light for fifteen minutes from a few seconds of winding. It's a bit bulky though. Cost me a bit more than a quid, however.
I just pack the top part when we are camping, leave them out in the daylight and come dusk they are alight. I take enough to put at the base of they guy ropes and doors. When we are ready to go to bed we move some into the bedroom and living area and place on the floor so we can see if we need to get up for a loo break in the night.
Hi Sceptical Camper, I've had them in my garden since last year and when we went away for four days to Mersea about three weeks ago we had nothing but torrential rain so nut much sun about at all and they still charged up enough to last the whole night through.
