Tell them that the Vermont XL fits on a standard pitch (7.7m x 4.8m) so you will find it much easier to get a pitch.
This will then open up a massive list of sites you can now visit without having to pay extra for an oversize tent like the Hartford XL.

Alternatively, just buy it and then worry about telling the other half later!
