Hi - now I have your attention...can you look carefully at the first photo in my profile, and tell me why thE back edge of our Estoril has perpetual wrinkles: it drove me dotty all holiday trying to straighten it out. Any suggestions for how to achieve a smoother 'backside'?

It looks as though the ground at that corner of the tent may be raised slightly, preventing the canvas from being pulled down taut over the frame.

Gah - our Beta 350 has this problem too - unless the ground as billiard ball smooth you tend to get wrinkles at one corner of the back - but worse than that, because of the slope on the back end, if you're not careful the inner ends up touching the outer.

If you go camping to "get away from it all" - why take it all with you?

If we assume the problem was caused by uneven ground, the problem must be that the leg pole was in a hollow. If you put a spacer under the leg to raise it, then the creases should dissapear. Magic!

If this was the cause, looking along the top side rail, you should be able to notice it drops away towards the back

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

Yup, sloping ground or a dip. You should be able to tweak it by raising the pole or pulling it inwards a tad. Have to say though that if I worried about every last wrinkle and wonky seam when putting up the TT or indeed any tent I'd be needing medication by now. I aim for tidy, windproof and waterproof and if something looks askew because of the pitch I do what I can about it then forget it for the rest of my stay. Life really is to short to worry about wrinkles!

On the Estoril? Try pushing the leg in a tiny bit and then pulling down simultaneously on each side of the corner seam on the canvas. And make sure the pole lines up with the seam, exactly, not off a bit to one side or the other. Also, peg in line with the corner seam, as close to the foot as you can and at a 45 degree angle.

Is the canvas nice and smooth when it's off the tent? If not, I'd pitch it and give it a really good soaking, then tweak it, soak it again, tweak it until it is nice and taut and then let it dry out (making sure the pegs stay firmly anchored as it does so).

My excuse is old age and lack of exercise for my wrinkly bottom, lol! ;-)

No wonder she's your ex...

Thanks for the tips - it's not the first time this has happened and always to the rear end and I've fidgeted about with it much to OH's annoyance. I agree, life's too short to really worry but when other tents look so taut I become all 'Monica' and fret. Oh well, time for another glass and then I won't focus so won't see the wrinkles. It's what I now tell my OH too!

Esther's gone to bed for winter I think so maybe next year I'll give her a workout and work out where the wrinkles are. Thanks again.
