I wish we had sound on here cos there would be a round of applause from every corner of the country for your husband Kath...Well done that man...

Must say stealing  on a campsite is a rare occurance in my experiance..and ususally done by off site ner-do-wells and not your neighbours...Happy the expeiance has not put you off camping or that site....

I do applaud your efforts to regain your possessions, but with some detailed information you could of provided re the items stolen then get the law involved.

having a laugh is one thing, but these chav's need to feel the full weight that an arrest and charging for such behavior is more than the silly bravado that comes with this sort of trouble that they cause is not worth it.lets put them in a cell, disrupt there time away, and stop this smirk on face and disregard for others.

The lack also of site security is a real worry, not a good advert for those who wish to take there hard earned brake at that site.

We were away at a site once for a Championship Dog show,[ large place ??]  During the night one braindead tried putting his hand underneath our awning to reach what he thought was a handbag?  [actually it was a dog grooming bag]  next to a stack of lager sixpacks, Unfortunately for him, our rather elderly large collie, who always slept in the awning, saw him !!    no noise,...until a blood curdling scream emanated from this lad,  because said collie 'licked the hand'  which- holding the said bag, toppled the cans onto his own hand ???  By the time i had dived out of bed and opened the zip, this lad had ran, full-pelt into the security guard 300 yards away. The guard had been following this lad for 20 minutes or so going from pitch to pitch, trying his luck !  Well it ran out when he got to us.     Provided a few laughs around the main ring next day, especially as i had chased him... still in my boxers ???    and the beer was safe for that nights party.

OMG that is shocking and very sad, I am glad you got your things back, have to say though I would have called the police regardless, or they will just keep doing it, probably not the first or last time they have done and some folk may not have been so lucky to get their stuff back. Absolute scumbags, thinking they can just take things because they want to or its a laugh, no doubt you are a hard working family and save to pay for your things, unlike these toe rags who think the world owes them free stuff!

Hope Karma comes a knocking at their door one day.

Sorry your break was marred, don't think I will be going to that site though, doesn't sound like they had full control, very dangerous and could have escalated big time. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come, I sometimes wish camping hadn't got so popular.

We camped at Wayfest this weekend, the first night thieves came through the forest and broke into several tents before they were chased, apparently there is a gang that specialise in festivals, especially the first night when people are relaxed and off their guard, the stewards and security were on every gate and patrolling the site, every camper had a dedicated wrist band, but you can't do much when a team of organised thieves walk through a forest to get to your stuff?

Obviously these people are not true campers. Its like an unwritten law that campers do not steal from one another.

I think you'll find it's actually a WRITTEN law

I've been camping for nearly 40 years, off and on, and have never had anything nicked, although we do leave stuff outside our tent on some sites. We go to a music festival every year, and while I've heard stories about stuff going missing there, I've been lucky so far.

We too have, by the sound of it been really lucky that nothing has been taken whilst we've been away. We do like most leave things outside and I'd like to think that all of our neighbours thought that we were trustworthy too.

I'm sorry some of you have had these bad experiences  -  and by the way just shown the other half this thread and he mentioned that maybe we were robbed this year as our wine definetly seemed to disappear most nights, he was pointing his finger at me though when he said it!

Thanks all for your posts ... It's nice to hear your tales especially the ones where beer/ wine has disappeared lol .... Please don't let our experience put you off the site..... I for one feel quite reassured that this was a one off .... To answer some of the posts regarding phoning the police hubby said he wouldn't have even approached them if he thought for one minute they would be aggressive towards him and also he just wanted to resolve the issue asap and that the shame on you approach seemed appropriate .... Hopefully it won't happen again but I think we handled it okay ....I think it's one of those things you assess at the time and take it from there .... Fingers crossed we have a quiet one at Rhos on Sea this weekend

I can't believe the audacity of some people.  Camping should be a relaxing experience where you dont have to worry if your belongings are safe.  I have to say that when i first went camping i was sceptical about the safety of my belongings in my tent wondering whether i should padlock the front zips together.   I hope that your incident was a one off.  I think the worst behaviour i have experienced was at a camp in Filey.  A group of lads in their late teens decided that it was a good idea to play football in between our tent, my parents tent and their tent.  The plot of land was about 4 by 4 metres.  Well you can imagine where the ball get landing especially with the winds up there.  They broke my guy rope which actually ripped from the tent, they then kicked the ball and it landed on my parents kitchen which marginely missed knocking the boiling hot kettle over my kids.  They decided to stop after that.  I understand that kids need to play but there was a acre of grass they could have played on so why do it in between tents.
