Remember that if you have a towbar mounted bike rack, the rack and the bikes will count towards your noseweight. You almost certainly don't have enough allowance for this.

You may even have problems with rear axle loading.

A breakaway cable has no purpose if there are no brakes to apply.  As has been said, the legal requirement is for a secondary coupling to keep the trailer attached to the car if the hitch fails.

hoggle. as for having the trailer stolen. take the wheels off and put in the car boot. mate always does that. never lost a trailer yet. everything out of trailer. ..wheels off into the boot. lower trailer to ground on some sore of base. wood blocks for example.   problem solved

I was looking at wheel clamps in Halfords the other day. They seemed quite expensive, and of course if someone really wants the trailer they can just quietly pick it up and put it in the back of a van. So I don't think wheel clamps are much good for a trailer.

We use a motorcycle chain to secure ours (the type that need a key to open it, as then you know you have the key to unlock it). There's normally something on site to chain it to, although I am thinking about getting a screw in ground anchor, as they look pretty cool.
