naked. On some naturist sites we visit I have noted some peoples are naked during the day but wear night attire in bed which I find strange but each to their own

Kind of makes sense - you're a lot more vulnerable when you're asleep.... & it's colder at night !

It's joggers and hoodie for me, with socks, under a double-double quilt (2 double quilts in one flanellette quilt cover) and a hot water bottle. Yup I'm nesh!

In my tent I used to have 2 more quiltys (opened out envelope sleeping bags) one between me and the airbed, and one to throw over the top when I was in a 3 season sleeping bag , but now I'm in a trailer tent the double-double quilt is more than adequate.

A nice word, "nesh". I don't know if it's specifically a midlands word but we certainly use it round here. "Yampy" is another, similar one.

Anyway, Wendy, I don't see anything nesh about keeping warm at night - freezing one's bits off is no fun.

Hi - glad you had an enjoyable time!!

I've been reading this with great amusement - it does seem like we split into 2 groups - either starkers or swaddled up like crazy! I'm the latter, definitely....3 season sleeping bag, 13.5 tog duvet on top, pjs, jumper and socks. And yes, it was August, but in Rutland, not Devon. Still very cold though! I'd have had a hot water bottle in there too, but had to donate it to my 4 year old. The sacrifices of motherhood......

Kate08 I went expecting the worst with thermal base layers, hat, gloves, thermal boot socks & even made a special trip to asda to get those snuggly lined slipper boots they sell! I forgot the hot water bottle & was gutted. The coldest part of the trip was stripping off to put that lot on

You are right though, we definitely fall into two camps (excuse the pun) & it would be a real eye opener if an emergency forced us all to flee from our beds in the middle of the night!

Totally acknowledge the depth of your sacrifice as a mother, you are a brave soldier!

Only been camping the once as I'm a newbie.  So on my first night I had hat, leggins, teeshirt and socks.  I have a -15 sleeping bag and was just to hot which was weird as I'm always cold at home.  So for next trip I have thermal leggins and top.  I think this is all I will need for this time of year but yet to find out. I sleep on a thermarest prolite plus.
