Yes they have rules, but those rules mean you don't get anti social behaviour, or people turning up in the middle of the night pitching their tent.
As we are over 55 we get concessions,so we find the sites good value when we camp which is usually out of high season.

That's exactly why I'm a member, Sue - their sites are well kept and well run, and I always feel very safe camping alone on them.

I forgo about the over 55 concession - it'll be even cheaper for me next year.

We joined the club in july stayed in scone for 5 nights and recouped our membership costs that week. When you join you also get the big sites book which lists thousands of sites and is said to be the most comprehensive listing book avalable and is priced at £15 but free to members also you get a smaller book with a large selection of award winning sites. There are some rules you have to abide by but these rules ensure your stay is as nice as possable.

All club sites are maintained to a high standard, and for us this more then makes up for the £38 membership cost.

Look at there site and check out a few of the reviews on this site and see what you think.

We have just come back from a site that was a CS which we didn't know until we arrived, loads of non members there plus more than the max of 5 Caravans/Motorhomes, also Toilets/Showers digusting no hot water and only cleaned once a week. Less than safe EHU's.

As at the time we didn't know that CS sites were for members only and only found this out when my father(who is a member) came to visit us on site and asked how did we manage to book on here.

Only saw the owner when we were packing up to leave, we mentioned the above and he reduced our pitching fee from £89(5 nights) down to £40

We have now joined the C & CC and have reported the site to them with photo's so hopefully it will improve.

I'm watching this post with interest as was just thinking the same question myself!

We have just come back from a trip in Skipton on a certified site (we're obviously non members) and have been pondering about joining!

The site was basic but clean and more importantly for me nice and quiet at night!  I loved the way the pitches were numbered so we all knew which bit was ours.

I'm a bit confused about what you get  so i'll keep watching!

This is our 1st year as members & we recouped our fees on 1 trip - even though we've camped for many years with the children at many sites, they were chosen with the boys in mind & had child friendly facilties, close proximity to the beaches but sometimes the showers/ toilets could have been better, also the last one had a clubhouse /entertainment which doesn't interest us but we were kept awake by revellers leaving said building.  Now the boys are older teens & don't need playgrounds etc (try getting them out of the sleeping bags before 11am!!) the pull of quiet sites with decent bathroom facilties came a calling, & we haven't been disappointed - my only gripe is although the showers are spotless and hot water plentful some of the sites have push button showers that only last 10 secs and a regulatedwater temp, obviously to appease the conservation brigade

I was a member but gave it up this year as i feel that the Cost of pitches for us tenters is far too expensive. I also feel that they are catering more and more for caravans and motorhomes and less for the canvas lovers amongst us. The other thing that I wasnt too happy about is the difficulties I had in booking sites at the times of the year where holidays are possible - especially if you are looking for an EHU pitch with a tent. They are snapped up very quickly and usually well in advance. The final straw was when I called a club site to ask a specific question about the site and was told to call back with the exact measurements of my tent before they could answer my question - which was nothing at all to do with pitches. I was calling to ask how far from the tent field the disabled facilities were? That made the final decision for me.

Another issue I found was that quite a few of the "certified" sites are not checked as regularly as they should be and can be very hit and miss.

I'd join if I were you to try for at least the year. Then you'll find out for yourself.

We joined the C&CC because the family pitch caters for up to 6. As a family of 5 we find this very very useful, as there are no hidden supplements or extra charges to pay for additional persons etc.

We have only visited 1 C&CC club site this year, mainly due to the fact its our first year under canvass, and we chose Blackmore, Malvern. My wife, children and I realy enjoyed the site, we were impressed by the overall cleanliness and attitude of the staff. We were also pleased with the way that other site users obeyed the rules and on the plus side we had no probs in booking, even at very short notice in August.

We will be using more C&CC sites in 2011, as they pose good value for money for me personally. I would recommend them whole heartedly  and i'm sure, if you decide to join will have the same opinion too.
