Having had a great 1st year camping, one thing does get on my nerves ..........ensuring the tent is fully dry when the weatherman says full sun and it rains for days upon end.

Am I been too pedantic?, I am going away this weekend the tent and the canopy is dry, I am now trying to dry the footprint, it has taken nearly  1 week and 3 days...I guess it is better than stuffed in the garage.

P.S thanks for all the info so far my Family love camping and it would have not been so smooth without everyone’s help.

if you don't dry it out you can say goodbye to the tent!

Local scout halls can be a very useful drying space, and for a small donation ours have said they would help out if we need to dry the tent.

It's a pain in the arse alright! 5 times this year we've brought a wet tent, canopy and footprint home. If it takes forever, we make sure its thoroughly dry. I'm away this coming weekend - will I be bringing a wet tent home?!

Our Montpelier is spread over the furniture right now, it was dry Sunday when we took it down, but I want to make sure its done dry as it will be stored now until May which seems ages away. Will be using the Hypercamp for Pillaton which is a lot smaller so if is wet when we leave, it is not as hard to dry

I was in the same situation today. The tent and porch got a soaking over the weekend, but was for all intents and purposes dry by the time we packed up.

Even so, because of how wet it had been, and the residual dampness inside as a result, the whole lot came out again this morning.

The downside? We live in a small semi with no garage and no usable loft space. In the end, I resorted to jamming pegs in the hinges of our big wall unit and hanging the tent up on that, along the top of the door, into the hallway and over the stairs...

I'm only glad nobody rang the home phone while it was up, since that was on the other side.

DamonST now that is commitment, yes it is the only negative we have found camping -drying the tent and we have looked after it after reading all the advice on here.

This will be the last weekend camping for me, this time with my brother so two nights in the first frosts of autumn, this will test us and the sleeping bags, now where is that brandy.

I have camped 6 times this year, and on every occasion had to pack away a wet tent, then spend days drying it at home, luckily I have a large conservatory so spread it and turn frequently till bone dry. But Pillaton may be a dry camp, so fingers crossed.
