I'm going camping with my dog and although he is well behaved when I'm with him, I'm worried that he will start to bark for a short period of time when I nip to the toilets/showers. Once I return from the showers he will settle down again. Will other campers/caravaners accept this as long as its only for a wee while? Just don't know what else to do as I camp alone. Any advice or am I fretting over nothing?
You will find that many sites will have somewhere outside the loo's/showers to tether the dog, so you can walk him down with you and let him plonk himself down outside. Presumably he will have experienced something similar at some point(outside a shop etc)?
I would advise against leaving a dog unattended for various reasons, not least that many sites specifically have a rule against it, but also that he might damage something/himself in your absence.
Another alternative (if it isn't a hot sunny day) would be to pop him in the car for ten minutes. At least if he has a bit of a shout, it's muffled more than in a tent.
We leave our beloved pooch inside the car on cooler days, as it's somewhee he is confident with and feels secure, he is an expert at beaking out of the tent, and I would hate to think of the damage he could do to the zips/ windows if left at all!!
Good luck, camping with the pooch is great, I use mine as an extra duvet!!!

I go along with Damon. There's almost always somewhere you can tie the dog while you're in the loo block.
I doubt if many people would be upset by barking if it's not loud or prolonged. Assuming, of course, it's not late in the evening, at night or early in the morning.
Personally, I would either leave my dog secured (crate or tie out lead) in the tent or most probably in the car ie somewhere he would feel and be safe and secure and therefore less likely to be worried and bark.
I wouldn't leave him tied up outside the tent unsupervised and definitely not outside the toilet block. The dog would feel more vulnerable and therefore inclined to bark. Also, young children and unsupervised dogs is always a risky mix - outside the toilet block is the most likely place for that mix to happen.

Ours would go in her crate in the car with windows open (unless hot) or in her crate in the tent itself (ditto if not hot).
We don't ever leave her tied up anywhere outside unattended, unfortunately the days of being able to do that are as long gone as leaving babies in prams outside shops!
We have a soft crate that is easy to move from tent to car etc.
Thank you so much - think I will pop him in the car as long as its not too warm and that way I won't disturb people too much. Great that everyone takes the time to give advice. Very appreciated.
Just to say Clyde was on his best behaviour during my camping trip and was worried over nothing. On my first visit to the shower/toilet block I popped him into the car for a wee five minutes. He barked as he saw me walk off. On my next toilet trip I did the same and he quickly realised that this was ok. Thanks for everyone's help. Had such a good time.
Good to hear Clyde was ok for you. I was a bit worried when I took our westie with us, he tends to bark at leaves falling off trees but he was fine also and really enjoyed himself.
