A year ago we bought our first tent and we started camping in April. We've now done 6 trips in 6 months and loved every one of them, despite the cold, wind and rain.

We came back from our latest trip yesterday and I feel really sad to be putting all the camping stuff for the winter. We are very hardy campers but I think the weather has turned now so we won't see our little canvas house until the Spring.

I'm so glad we've caught the camping bug and can't wait to get going again in April. The whole family feels really dejected today as we realise the camping is over for this season.

There's no such thing as a camping season. Get yourself an EHU cable and a good fan heater and go anytime the weather is reasonable. It can be quite pleasant in autumn/winter/spring. You just need to adjust your gear for colder weather.

Cheaper, and no need to book up in winter either.

Learn the skills and you won't need EHU then wild camping in spring and autumn becomes an option.

The limiting factor for me after the end of October up until early March is that the days are too short to make camping worth while for me.

Take care

We have EHU, electric blankets and fan heater and one night we went in early April it was minus 3 at night so we are hardy campers but we've decided not to go over the winter. I do take all your points but I think we'll keep the home fires burning until the Spring.

(We're going to seek some sun in November in Portugal in an apartment - please don't hate me!! ;-))

Went away early may bank holiday none ehu and vowed never to do it again it was freezing,on the saturday kids were out and about with some friends while me and clare ended up sitting in the car with heater full on,then we lit a couple of bbqs to keep warm,we had a chat and decided sunday morning we were going home, sunday came and and it was quite warm and the kids persuaded us to stay, then  about 4 in the afternoon it all of a sudden got cold and it began hail stoning, that was it car packed and of home we went,i swear it took the whole 2 and a half hour journey home for me to get warm....never ever again.

For a few days after i was getting vibes from clare and kids that our camping days could be over so like falling of a bike i had to make sure we got back on so i booked for late may bank holiday and what a difference we were all happy campers again.

Now i'm far from being the perfect planner or camper but by hell l made mistakes that weekend, mainly the tent(argos thing) it was far to small for 4 of us to sit in,we had no heating of any kind but mainly i should never have booked for that weekend with the gear we had....lesson well and truly learned.

Take care
