....we're off camping at Hartsholme Park in Lincoln for 3 nights on sunday. We've had lots of "you're completely mad!" type comments but we and our 4 kids are very, very excited about it. Think the bulk of our packing will be extra bedding to cope with sub zero nights plus extra gas cannisters for the tent heater.

Good for you, we are going to Fishpool Camping and Caravan Park for a few days at the end of October and yes it may get cold but we are looking forward to it
I've told our 4 boys they're going to have to wear tights under their PJs for bed (along with extra socks, jumper, hat, hot water bottle....) It feels like we're going on a proper adventure!

I'm sure you will be fine zoecx and you're definitely not mad.
We have just had a few days in Derbyshire, and even though the nights were very cold, we managed to stay nice and warm - we do have hook-up mind you. One of the main reasons we managed to stay warm was the the fact that I bought some foam underlay for the whole tent floor. I had camped in the garden the week before to try out the new tent, and I was amazed at how cold it was underfoot (even with carpet), but when we camped with the addition of the underlay the difference was amazing.....even with a ground frost!
As others have said....keep well insulated, but I think that this should apply to the whole tent floor, not just under the beds, as any cold surface will definitely add to the air chill factor.
We are off to the Hopleys meet in mid November, should think the underlay will be essential then!
Its great to hear we aint all softies in this country, We are off to Wales for 3 nights. top tip for cold mornings keep your stove at ground level heats the whole tent and you can get a brew on while still in your sleeping bag,
