Sincere condolences for your loss...from someone who has recently been through the same loss...Makes no diffrence..dog...cat...hamster...or whatever...once that bond is established with your pet...the sudden breaking of that bond can be painful...

I hope... in time you and your family will find another to bond with...

Jelboy.

I know from experience how hard it is to say goodbye to a family pet for our 17 years old Jack Russell finally just wore out a couple of months ago so the kindest thing was to have him put down(the she-devil had to take him, I just couldn't do it). However, a friend of ours is behaving quite oddly to a stray cat she took in several years ago which has now developed cancer. Two days ago it was finally diagnosed, which cost her £120.00. She has now decided the moggie is to go on a course of chemotherapy at a cost of goodness knows what which is almost doomed to failure. I didn't like to tell her but the kindest thing she could do is to have the cat put down. It sounds to me that the Vet is playing on the woman's grief and making himself quite a few quid out of it.

Hi Tommy. I have not been on UKCS for a few weeks now. I was so sad to hear about your precious Jake. We all become so attatched to our pets. They are indeed one of the family. I am sure you and the family will have lots of happy memories of Jake. As for future camping trips-yes it will initially be strange without him but he will be watching over you all and wanting you to enjoy yourselves. Take care

Thanks All ...............in loving memory of our Jake..........

If it should be that I grow weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep.
Then you must do what must be done,
for this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest,
your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
what is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so.
The time has come, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend
and please stay with me until the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see,
the kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
from pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve it must be you
who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years.
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

My little dog is curled up fast asleep beside me on the sofa,he is only two years old and already the thought of life without him is unbearable. I just read your poem, and looked across at him and found tears in my eyes.

It is so hard to do the right thing.....

Thinking of you and all pet owners who have done this kindest of acts for a beloved animal,

Carole
