After spending a few years camping with big tents I decided to go small as in back packing and wild camping and what can I say I loved it.

Just spent Saturday the 13th at Styhead Tarn in the lake district ready for Sunday to make an ascent on Great Gable for the Sunday Rememberance.

Both myself and the mrs got our selves 65ltr rucksacks and a Wild country Aspect 2 tent that only weighs in at 1.8kg and for £90 was a bargain also the fact it is made by Terra Nova is even better.

Also I wanted to ask if anyone can recomend any good Tarns or areas in the lakes for wild camping, I have been fell walking and mountainering in every English season for 16 years now and through work I will finially be on my mountain leaders course in January.

Don't know any in the lakes but the bottom of snowdon has some nice sites

We camped on the side of capel curig, half way up the mountain...and the farmer trekked all the way up there the next day and asked for a fiver for us pitching the tent

Seems like a long way for a fiver Anyway Snowdon area does look good and thanks for the advice Val.

LOL i know what you mean, well a hip flask with some Johny Walker Black Label and an Ipod touch with Angry Birds installed on it seemed to work a treat.

Saying that thou after the days walking and some scrambling with a 65ltr rucksack on I was shattered anyway and was aspleep pretty early anyway all worth it thou for that sunrise and sunset that you just dont experience down below.

Have done this in my youth and nothing beats it, nothing.  Waking up, upzipping the tent and viewing the dawn outside from your sleeping bag.  Okay it is hard work but stress of life just drops away .... All the gadgets in reality although lovely take you a little bit futher away from that experience.

you should try Stickle Tarn in Langdale, i haven't camped up there myself, but been up and past it a couple of times when camping at chapel stile, and the views are stunning from there and Pavey Ark, another couple of hundred feet up :)

I've been considering Stickle Tarn for a while now, I have spent alot of time camping and walking all over Langdale Valley although my camping has been mainly at Great Langdale.

I think it is an amazing place and totally agree Jasper thanks for the input.
