Hi looking to do some camping on my CBR600 this year

Has anyone got any advice on sleeping bags/ mats small and how do you strap them to the bike without causing damage??

I have a small coleman 2 man tent which i plan to take which packs up quite small ( smaller than a standard sleeping bag).

Any advice would be great as i have never tried this before and really would like to.

I had a sports rack on my 600 and used soft luggage that hung over the seat for clothes and smaller items,this gives you an area to lay the tent and sleeping bags over.Plenty of room solo but done the tt with the wife a couple of times and it was quite a sqash but we managed to get a tent and two sleeping bags on the back.

Always wondered if i could get the XJR in the caravan but the wife does not think it would be a good idea

Sportsbikes are tricky, on something 'old fashioned' its easier, ie flat seat and mudguard. But yea, if you can get throwovers to fit nicely it gives you a flat area to bungee the tent and mats to. Ive got an old Harley, even had a 4 man tent strapped to the bars at one point---------

Thanks guys

I've been looking around at lightwieght stuff and it's quite expensive so i think i'll stick to b+b for the bike and family camping for the Car / Trailer / Roofbox !!!

I've not got a sports rack on my bike and dont want to scratch it ( or i will be )

use a dry sack to strap on over pillion and rack. Think minimal - buy a bottle of water at destination and use it on camp. solid fuel stove for the odd cuppa and dine out.

On the CBR there is a place where you can strap bungies too. I think they oare by the pillion peg on the back. OH has a CBR but has only been to bike rallies so only needed tent and sleeping bag on bike - the cans were in a rucksack on his back!

Just a thought on that Khyam, they're good tents and the big porch is useful for wet gear etc, the pack size is quite large which might be an issue on a sportsbike. I've got a Vango Banshee 200 which packs up small enough to fit in a throwover pannier.

If you haven't got a tank bag, Lidl and Aldi regularly do cheap, excellent quality ones.

To avoid damage to the bike plastics and seat from throwovers/bungies etc get some non slip matting and cut it to shape. For a first trip, would recommend travelling as light as possible to get used to the experience and then if you enjoy it you can build from that.

Small pack sized sleeping bags that can be used on anything other than a warm summer night tend to be quite dear. I've got a Snugpak Elite 2 which is very good, but was about £60 (I think). I do a lot of bike camping and rallying so I considered it an 'investment'
