My bonkers-but-loaded mate always pays extra to have the tent and stuff pre-erected when she goes to festivals. She tried to convince me this was a really good deal, at a cost of £260 for the privilege at Latitude last year.

One year she decided to try "proper camping" (her words, not mine) and hired a luxury motor home for Glastonbury. She proudly told me how it had central heating, a shower and all that jazz. They were advised by the hirers to drive to Somerset with the water tank empty, and fill it when they got there, to save on fuel. When they got there, they couldn't get anywhere near a standpipe, so the shower was bloody useless! How I laughed.

She now stays in a hotel a couple of miles away when she goes to Glastonbury.

Reminds me of a similar tale from a couple of years ago.

A lad I know (again loaded) hired a Winnebago to take to Glastonbury. He asked a mate if he wanted to go with him. The reply was, "Ooh, no! I don't fancy roughing-it."

Back on track, I take packet tissues rather than loo roll as they fit in your pocket a lot easier. Also, I recommend taking a solar shower if you have the room to pack one.

...after all an awning is just a three-sided tent!

Festival veteran.

Owner of too many tents!
