We have got our first trip on 11 April this year, 4 nights in Lower Hyde with EHU and return ferry with Red Funnel for £96.00 all in :-)

Comes to something when the ferry was more expensive than the pitch and that was for 2 adults and 3 kids...

Hi all

We went Red Funnel deal last year and are going again at Easter this year. If you book direct with the campsite then its much cheaper. Previously we had used the "5 day camping deal" with Red Funnel but wanted to stay longer so found it worked out cheaper in previous years to book with the campsite (who were doing 9 nights for the price of 7 at the time) so were able to stay longer for roughly the same cost.

We are going to Waverley http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3306 this year

Yeah ! as mentioned in my previous mail - book direct with Waverley and you could probably stay for as long as you like i.e. dont be restricted by the Red Funnel deals. Waverley can get good discounts for you anyway. They are very knowledgeable about the ferry crossings and keeping the cost down etc..

In my opinion the IOW is OK but nowhere near as nice as Devon or South Wales. The island is generally over crowded with few sandy beaches and expensive to get to. It is nice to have that "on and island" feel but really and truthfully it's just an annex to Portsmouth. There are nicer places to visit without a rip off ferry crossing.

PLEASE do not try and say that 'truthfully' we are an annex to Portsmouth.

we have no connection with Portsmouth at all... apart from the ferry crossing.. but then we also have ferry crossings to southampton and lymington.

we TRUTHFULLY are an Island in our own right.. we are our own county.. and believe me... it is nothing like portsmouth over here (and i have lived there, so i know what to compare it to!) 

i would be grateful, if youwouldnt mind, for you to retract that statement.. as you have stated that it is fact, when of course it really is not.

Isnt this thread all about those that do what to go to the IOW and discussions on past experiences of how to save a little extra money to avoid been ripped off by the ferry companies?

Personally i have camped in Devon, Cornwall, South Wales, Somerset, Wiltshire etc..etc.. and find them all attractive in their own way - isnt that the point of camping? i.e. being able to more or less go anywhere in the country and if you dont like it you can up and move or not go there again.
